Are voting rights like sex? |
|
Why do Republicans support the status quo even when it prevents a huge set of possible economic transactions?
Suppose that citizen ABC and citizen DEF have the right to vote in a particular election, but they have decided to not use that right. Corporation XYZ might be willing to offer money to citizens ABC and DEF in exchange for those voting rights.
However, the voting system provides no way for such a transfer to occur. I would expect Republicans to say that this is analogous to having a right to take delivery of 10,000 bushels of soybeans and having the government tell you that you may eat the 10,000 bushels of soybeans, but you may not sell them to anybody else.

Uh, I make a motion that we have no more of these meetings that have been initiated by George Costanza.
