Cop drives after drinking - no sobriety test, admitted drinking, given ride home

FWPD officer admits having a drink and then driving and now prepared to learn his punishment
An investigation is now underway

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A sergeant with the Fort Wayne Police Department will be disciplined after admitting that he had a drink, while off-duty, and then drove.

According to Fort Wayne Police Chief Rusty York, Sergeant Hollis Burton had remained on the job since the September 29 incident.

Burton was pulled over by a Fort Wayne officer after someone called police concerned about his driving. That officer said he smelled alcohol on Burton’s breath and that’s when the sergeant admitted he’d had a drink. York said Burton was not given a breathalyzer or any other field sobriety test.

An officer gave Burton a ride home.
