Charlotte NC, ahead of DNC 2012 Convention looks at proposals to limited OWS protestors there
Charlotte Mecklenburg Police have been working on a city ordinance that may force the demonstrators out. A draft copy of the proposed ordinance bars camping on all public property owned by the city — "except as may be specifically authorized by the City Manager or his or her delegate."

According to the city, the new rules were drafted as part of Charlotte’s planning for the Democratic National Convention.

"The recent issues related to camping on city property have further amplified the need to review whether the city wants to regulate this activity during the upcoming DNC," states a recent memo from Walton and Police Chief Rodney Monroe to the mayor and city council.

Click here to download the memo and here for a draft of the proposed ordinance.

-----------------------

Currently, staff is considering DNC proposals that regulate the following: possession of noxious
substances, possession of obstruction devices, prohibiting temporary obstructions on the public
right of way and limiting camping on public property. The recent issues related to camping on
city property have further amplified the need to review whether the city wants to regulate this
activity during the upcoming DNC. A copy of staff’s current draft proposals is attached for your
review. We anticipate that there will be additional changes to these drafts and possibly additional
proposals as we continue to prepare for the DNC. We will keep you posted of these proposals
as they are completed.

3. Alot of it could be economic: Conventions are fund raisers, and they don't want all
the proceeds lost to emergency police expenses. But it will fail. OWS will just find another place every time they're evicted. It might be smarter for OWS to secure real camping areas for living, and then show up on foot at various surprise locations. If they can legally find camping areas that want them, they won't have to waste energy and resources hassling with police about tents.

6. I plan to go and film the whore houses the corporations are setting up
in Charlotte area hotels. The enemies of the 1st amendment will not win at either convention.
