LOL Bachmann just said what?
She said Steve Jobs told Obama that the reason he moved the a lot operations over to China was that he could not find 30,000 engineers here...

More like 30,000 low paid workers to assemble things.

2. I can't believe that shit.
These Chinese workers are trained to do one or maybe two tasks each, and do them extremely well. So they sit there getting a new part, do one or two things to it, move to the next part, do the exact same thing. They're glorified slave robots and the electronics industry loves them.

Bachmann never ceases to amaze me with her stupidity.

4. Yeah I was about to make a post on this.
I just wasn't sure who to call a liar, Bachman or Jobs. The people working in China aren't engineers, they are assembly line work for slave wages.

7. It's either Bachmann or both.
Because if Jobs really said it, Bachmann's repeating a lie and I know she's crazy, but on some level she knows it.

6. He did tell Obama that.
Also that regulations made it impossible to set up a factory here.
I just read about it in the Isaacson book.

12. I doubt he told him he needed to export 30,000 engineering jobs.
Those are located in Cupertino. While Jobs did outsource manufacturing jobs to China, he hasn't outsourced product design and DFM (design for manufacturing) engineering to China.

13. Here's the quote:
Jobs said the Obama administration was not business-friendly and said it was impossible to build a factory in the United States due to regulations and unnecessary costs. Apple had 700,000 factory workers employed in China, where it was much easier to build and run a factory, Jobs said. He said Obama was "headed for a one-term presidency" if the administration didn't improve.

Jobs also said the American education system was "hopelessly antiquated" and crippled by teachers' unions. Apple's factories, for example, needed 30,000 skilled engineers — something the U.S. education system was not producing. He suggested the President completely overhaul the system and proposed an 11-month school year with days that lasted until 6 p.m.

"You can't find that many in America to hire," he said. "If you could educate these engineers, we could move more manufacturing plants here."

14. Sounds like Jobs thought that skilled engineers come out of high school?
Used to be a huge company with the kind of assets Apple had they would hire high school graduates and pay for them to become skilled engineers.

Either that or they call their assembly line production workers in China skilled engineers?

15. Actually this is what the book writer
says Jobs said. But all the others here make valid points. Jobs liked cheap labor. period.

17. OK, he's talking about the manufacturing engineers.
By definition, they are located where the manufacturing is. They are responsible for developing the assembly set-ups, process flow, and component assembly issues.

Sounds like Steve had really turned himself into a Republican with his views on education and teacher's unions. They didn't offshore jobs in this country - it was people like Jobs. While I don't hold him specifically to blame for moving off-shore...the logic being you can't put yourself at a competitive disadvantange if your competition is doing it; he shares a lot more of the blame for enabling the outsourcing results than teachers do. Of course, if there are no manufacturing jobs...there are not going to be a lot of young people graduating with manufacturing engineering degrees...what would be the point?

9. Gee, if she's wrong about something as easily refutable as this is,
what else is she wrong about> Pretty much everything. I'd be embarrassed and insulted if Democrats fielded candidates like this for POTUS. I guess in opposite world this is considered serious candidate.

18. Why does she hate America? "could not find 30,000 engineers here...
Bachmann believes that Americans don't have what it takes to compete any more. I call bullshit. I'm tired of the other party telling the American worker that we're just not good enough on the competitive playing field any more. Sick to death of it.
