Fallon apologizes to Bachmann

(CNN) - TV show host Jimmy Fallon apologized to GOP presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann via Twitter Tuesday for a song played as the presidential candidate walked on stage for her Monday interview on NBC's "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon."

"I'm honored that @michelebachmann was on our show yesterday and I'm so sorry about the intro mess. I really hope she comes back," he wrote on Twitter.

As the Minnesota Congresswoman walked out to greet Fallon on stage, the show's band, The Roots, played a song by Fishbone called "Lyin' Ass Bitch."

Bachmann, while waving and smiling as she walked out Monday night, appeared unaware of the song or its lyrics, some of which include the words, ....

9. I don't think so
I heard the Fresh Air interview with Fallon a few weeks ago. FWIW, Terri Gross said he's known in the business for being a nice, stand-up guy. I'm starting to think he didn't have prior knowledge of this.

2. They could've played Gnarles Barkley's "Crazy".

I don't think anyone has yet written "Pray away the gay". Yet.

5. It's too bad that he apologized
What he should have done was a politician apology where he starts out with, "If anyone was offended, I'm sorry."

8. He couldn't possibly have foreseen that his apology would give it more exposure
No way he could see that coming. :)

7. The band should be fired. Refer to a woman as a “slut trash can bitch,” and
you get praised around here because the woman is a republican? That's sickening. If any band had played a black candidate onto the stage with a racist song they would immediately be let go. I don't see why this is any different. They should be fired.

11. I don't think they will be
Probably they will be (or already have been) excoriated in private and made to promise that all intro music must be cleared with the brass before the show. NBC is probably hoping this will go away ASAP. Firing them would be bad for the network because it would give the story longer life and inject a racial element into it, not to mention damage the reputation of Fallon (whom they probably plan to be a long-term asset) with the black community.

calling certain women cunts. Unabashedly defend I might add. Unqualified defense.

16. Yeah, I'm not thinking it fits most peoples' definition of "joke".
For what it's worth, I saw Fishbone open for The Bus Boys at Madame Wongs in '80.

Not how you talk about women. Period.

12. Classy on his part
I don't care who the person is, you treat them with respect if they agree to an interview with you. What the band did would've infuriated me.
