OBAMA GETS A NOTE FROM THE 99 PERCENT MOVEMENT: ‘WE GOT SOLD OUT’
| President Obama received a note from a protester after his jobs speech in Manchester, New Hampshire this afternoon. The note tells the president to “stop the assault on our 1st amendment rights,” and “Banks got bailed out. We got sold out.” Obama addressed the movement directly after he was mic checked during his speech, saying, “You’re the reason that I ran for office in the first place.” See the note handed to Obama:

Agreed.

When I speak to someone regarding the war in Afghanistan, et al...sometimes I think, "should I reserve my judgment? Am I just preaching my own opinion?" But then I think, you know, I can withhold my opinion if it's what car is the coolest to buy, or which team I think should be in the BCS, or what movie sucks or doesn't suck. But these wars create DEATHS. So, I can say what I GD want to say when people are dying, whether you think it's a good reason or not!

My point I suppose is the situation should be put into perspective, and only someone that is NOT jobless would say that something like starving, losing their home, or dying from a treatable condition is 'frustrating'.

Good call.

95. And? How about it??
Edited on Thu Nov-24-11 05:02 AM by Cherchez la Femme
First, the subject is Obama, not ancient history; nor comparing the two as exactly equal or in equitable circumstances.
Although I'd be hard-pressed to find a NAFTA-type or Trade Agreement they mutually didn't like!

Secondly, Clinton's phraseology, as fake-sounding as it was, in itself no way ameliorates or excuses Obama completely dropping the ball on his statements towards the 99% of U.S. citizens who are hurting or suffering-- hungry, freezing, living in poverty, evicted and/or otherwise homeless-- to the ever increasing and tightening of our societal downward spiral

That's comparing apples and oranges,

or should I say comparing one to a mild cold/or similar flu and the other with with rattling bronchial pneumonia and no Health Insurance
...Oops I should have meant ROMNEY\OBAMACare---where the healthiest by far are the Insurance Profiteers, Investors and of course Profits Earnings and Dividends?

Thirdly, just because "Politicians have been doing this fake empathy for centuries."

Does this still mean, in this long-past post-age of enlightenment,

we should still be tolerating such outright Lies and Greed which contribute directly to the plebes quality of care, best possible health, nutrition, comfort, welfare, who gets the choice extraneous body-parts, and therefore who lives or dies as least upon the fullness of their wallet?

And STILL be tolerating professional, mostly if not all wealthy, politicians LIES??!

Educate me as to what a equally-based, classless society we are!

Please, ENLIGHTEN me!

Oh, and Major HOGwash --a very fitting name in more ways than one-- since you took the time to tell me in no uncertain terms I am banned from the sight of your sore eyes, not even to a Private Message
(as if I would!)
do not worry -- my words here will not sully your Hagiographic world-view!

These polling numbers are brought up every time somebody points out the president's less than liberal leanings, yet we are also told that liberals are only a fraction of the Dem party. So, 85% of 25% = ?

24. Those numbers, oddly, have not changed in two years.
They represent a tiny fraction of the population. People on a list of Democrats who are loyal, Democratic Party Voters.

If I am called, I would respond the same way. Which means absolutely nothing in terms of how I feel about the current horrendous situation, the cabinet members he is surrounded by eg, among a myriad of other things.

The reason I would say 'yes' to such a poll, is because I have moved beyond believing that the president has much power anyhow. I do not know what he might have done if we had system that was not taken over by Wall Street so I give him the benefit of the doubt and the other side is too scary to even contemplate.

The system is the problem that needs to be addressed. When people say 'President Obama is irrelevant', it is not meant personally to him, it means we have finally realized that no matter who makes it to the WH, even someone with the best intentions, it will not matter.

So, while we work on fixing this major problem, with the choices we now have, it's better to not endorse the other truly evil side by answering a poll on Democrats negatively.

26. They support Obama compared to Romney, Perry or Cain.
If there were a candidate with a record of standing up to Wall Street -- like Eliot Spitzer (see Client 9 if you want to know what happened with his call-girl scandal) or Bernie Sanders (who cannot be reproached either personally or politically) or Marcy Kaptur, or Dennis Kucinich, then we would know how much support Obama really has or does not have.

Obama is the better of a bunch of bad choices. That's why he has the support of liberals.

I long ago realized that by the time any politician made it to a high level, they had sold out and would not really represent the average person. We just have to pick the best of what is there and hope that they will not do further damage to the country.

But I am afraid we've lost completely, so I'm rooting for the occupiers to make a difference.

9. I firmly believe we blundered by not forcing the banks to deal with their bad assets.
As for the notion of "too big to fail," I ask why? Because Bernanke and Geithner told us so? Nonsense--they gambled and lost; and they should have suffered the consequences of their actions. The base of the economic pyramid is the foundation. Allowing a few fat cats to tumble from their perches would have hurt--but it would have them more than the rest of us.

If these banks were indeed to big to fail, why hasn't our Congress eliminated this "danger" by decentralizing the U.S. banking system? And why are they allowing the "too big to fail" to just keep getting larger and larger and larger?

They "saved" the jobs and bonuses of a few VERY RICH, Wall Street CEOs & Insiders,
and they prevented the portfolios of the Ownership Class from taking a loss,
but the didn't "Save the Economy."
The "Economy" is MUCH MORE than Wall Street.

It took our Congress less than a week to hand over a TRILLION DOLLARS

This robbery was cleverly timed to Go Off during the change over of administrations,

It address what exactly? The lack of jobs for the young people, their crippling student debt? Hollow empty rhetoric, as usual.

29. Kicked and fucking recommended!
The only problem with the note? Obama already knows this and he is not allowed to voice support for OWS or investigate Wall Street and hold them accountable. Just as he has not investigated the Bush Administration and held them accountable. Now, if you do not agree with that, the alternative is worse. What's it going to be?

60. I can't agree, Major Hogwash (not that you probably care),
but I think it's a clear and concise statement of how many are feeling and the President should be made aware.

I wouldn't have thought it was disrespectful if given to Bush - quite the contrary.

I often wonder how much gets through to those in such an insulated position. They have to rely so heavily on others to find what's happening, and getting information that way is always subject to interpretation. Like all Fox news watchers believe one set of truths because that's all the input they get. Don't know how much time a sitting President actually has to take the pulse of the people, and I think this note did a good job of reminding him what spawned OWS.

109. Respect is earned, and can be lost.
Respect is not a thing that should ever be given by default, regardless of your social or political prominence.

As to "immature", you're just wrong. Immaturity lies in being unable to handle this sort of thing when it happens.

There will be streets renamed after President Obama when he leaves office.
There will be buildings named after President Obama after he leaves office.
There will be airports named after President Obama when he leaves office.
He will get his own frickin' stamp!
We might even ask for a new denomination for coins to place his likeness on our money!

Hell, I'm even thinking of going down to the dawg shelter and getting another dawg.
And then naming him "President Obama", so I can go to the back door at dusk to call him in for the night just so I can piss off my neighbors!
I'm going to get a BLACK lab!!

It is my density!

the 99 sells itself out by ignoring the 1% radio, the biggest soapbox in the country, ignored while it has been undermining normal democratic feedback mechanisms.

our elected reps in a democracy shouldn't have to keep a shotgun by the door but by ignoring talk radio , that is what it's come down to.

124. Yea and nothing has changed
I also once was proud but knowing someone has put their heart into it is karma and momentum enough and is a good reason to pitch in. The lessons of the past of what didn't get done in the way it should have actually serves us well. That teach-in thing, the establishment hates that part, thanks for being there

Crashing their party should be our next stop

And a final thought; The only real difference i personally can see between most Dems and repukes is the amount of brainwashing they have succumbed to. Of course much of R's Party has installed sociopaths in leadership positions but mostly i see that lower rank and file as not really understanding or knowing why that understanding would matter.

123. US Constitution/Bill of Rights & Presidency ...
It was because we held beliefs such as those represented by the OWS protests that we voted for a SEACHANGE, hoping that then senator obama understood what was needed to restore the USA to the JFK/RFK/LBJ version of Us Constitutional democracy, and that he meant his promise to provide a SEACHANGE as president. Unfortunately, we did not ask senator obama to explicate his meaning of SEACHANGE CAMPAIGN PROMISES and clearly, he is yet to fully comprehend what SEACHANGE was/is needed. Does President Obama read/listen to Robert Reich when he takes the time to explain what is needed to help the USA and the american people in commentary on huffington post.com et al. ? Perhaps it is a generational thing, i.e., Mr Obama just did not grow up alongside RFK ... did not understand Patrick Kennedy and Robert Kennedy Jr when they argued vociferously in the US House of Representatives back in the late 1980's/early 1990's ? and what of Joe Biden, he SHOULD know, SHOULD be whispering in president obama's ear to boost comprehension needed to formulate vital solutions now ... Biden stated recently he might run for president in the future ... ? !! he's VP now, why hasn't he educated president obama appropriately to make up for the generational knowledge gap ?! by their actions so shall ye know them...Biden has proven he is not a credible presidential candidate. WHY hasn't president obama taken Robert Reich into the executive branch to orchestrate the recovery needed ... ?! Does any of the press/media understand how the past 35 years of wrong policies have created the current 'second great depression' ? clearly not, since they all went along with politicians postulating the china economic engine would recover the world from the economic pit the republicans, tories, and every other adam-smith-conomics moron have unilaterally created, and except for Tony Benn, John Smith, Donald Dewar, and Gordon Brown of the UK, without any counterbalance/counterpoint from the so-called "liberals" who failed to produce the regulation and controls of business, finance, banking, and economics vital to re-establishing stable and strong individual national economies which would have nurtured a positive global trade beneficial to development and democracy for each and every nation, each and every Indivdual of every nation.

So why haven't the educated Press/Media explained to the american people BEFORE political chicanery dupes them yet again how this mess was created, what needs to be visioned to undo it, and what remedial actions need doing to fix it ... ? !!
