And if the person in front of me at the grocery store didn't have enough money at the checkout
and even if I KNEW they were a Republican, I would still offer them the money to buy the food they needed, because that's what being a Liberal, a Progressive, a Democrat is all about.

Some of us don't have a lot of material goods, some of us may not have enough for a Thanksgiving feast, but tomorrow if you need someone, we'll be here. Thanks for being here when I always needed you.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

16. If I had the extra cash, I would most certainly help.
I feel bad when someone asks for help and I have no cash. I once walked into a pharmacy and used my debit card to get a guy his script.

20. How funny is that. I was just at a supermarket;
I somehow managed to misplace my wallet. I also was supposed to be paid by a client the day before, but she forgot. So I only had barely enough cash on me to get what I needed (found out last minute I was hosting a petite Thanksgiving). I calculated (roughly) to the wire using the store discounts on the items and was $2 short of getting the blueberries for the blueberry-pear pie I wanted to make.

I didn't need the blueberries, but they would have been nice. I might get the chance to pick them up tomorrow, but I hate making extra trips.

27. I remember one time that a lady at a gas station had a problem with her credit card ...
during a evacuation for Hurricane Charley. She was very distraught and when I found out her problem, I paid to fill up her tank.

It turned out that the hurricane missed Tampa and hit the Florida coast near where I had evacuated to. I was on the outskirts of the storm about 40 miles from the center of the small but very powerful storm.

21. That happened to me just the other day. Lady in front of me
was $3 short so I handed it to her. She was stunned. Hell, it was only $3 and I'm doing ok. On a selfish note, giving her $3 takes a lot less time than waiting for them to decide what to not buy. $3 isn't going to make or break me and she had a couple of little kids so why not?

30. I do the same thing. I pay with an ATM card
but I've always got money on me for little stuff, enough to make up the difference so people won't have to put any of their food back. It's nice to know other people out there are doing the same. It's called being a human being.

And thanks for the kitty picture.

33. Yup, I've done this ... the person in front of me is trying to pick which items to leave
behind because they don't have enough money to cover what they wanted to get.

They are clearly embarrassed, and now struggling to decide what to leave behind.

So when I have seen this, I've said, "Hey ... just slide those things back with my stuff, and I'll cover you this time. My kids and my wife are always raiding my wallet and leaving me short of cash at the check out line. They drive me crazy. So let's do this, I'll cover you today, but don't be surprised if maybe next week, you'll get to help cover me" ... and we all laugh.

We are all in this together.

And sure, the person you help today, or tomorrow, might not be able to help you, or anyone else, for a long time, or ever ... and you might not even need such help for a long time, or ever ... but ... when we can help, we should.

And you are absolutely right, party affiliation does not matter.

34. I was fortunate to have a similar opportunity at my supermarket a while back
Two folks from a soup kitchen were ringing up food in front of me. I don't remember how I came to know that they were from a soup kitchen, but I told the cashier to not total it up. Just ring up my stuff too and I'd pay for everything.

Smiles all around!!!!

39. The pay it forward concept is a very important
Thanksgiving message.

The sad reality is there are many people who are simply takers and do not reciprocate.

A young man and his girlfriend at a gas station told me they had run out of gas and didn't have any money to make it home, and asked if I could help them out, I told them of course I would, and I used my credit card and filled their tank with gas and then handed them 10 bucks and told them McDonald's dinner was on me, I really felt for this couple and I really felt good about helping them out, it actually brought memories of my wife and I when we were young and struggling. Later on my way home I saw their car exiting an ABC liquor store sigh!

Of course that is not the norm, and I realize everyone needs help now and again especially with today's economy being in the toilet and jobs scarce. I have helped many people many times through gifts of cash and time, life is a struggle.
