Walker Recall: Witness to a felony
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/11/23/1039525/-Walker-Recall:-Witness-to-a-felony

..snip..

With the four of us there, but only one behind the table, a guy walked up from his car parked in the lot. He was greeted and directed to the clipboards. He picked up a pen - and used it to destroy - tear to pieces - the recall petition for Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, along with several (empty!) ones underneath it.

...

What happened next, happened fast. The perp shouted something about Walker, and I think an obscenity or two. One of the workers snatched the clipboard from him, and the one with Walker's petition got pulled too. Someone - I don't know who, hell, it might have been me - yelled that he was committing a felony. (I know I was yelling, but I couldn't tell you what) Ms. Cheesehead tried to grab him. I pulled out my cell phone and fumbled with trying to get it to work as a camera, someone else called 911. People were yelling. Ms. Cheesehead tried, unsuccessfully, to flag down an passing squad. Mr. Perp appeared to be taken aback by the ferocity of the response to his actions.

As the perp went back to his car, Ms. Cheesehead and one of the workers secured the petitions. A local attorney came up and made sure everything was OK. I and the other worker followed Mr. Perp back to his car, I was telling him that he might as well stay because he'd just committed a felony and he might as well wait for the police to come. I also told him that we had photos of him (a lie, 'cuz I was still trying to get my phone to work).

..end..

Some great lessons learned and advice for future encounters.

3. Did you read the article?
've also got a photo of the license plate and front of the car, but the local police are taking care of those.

Mr. Perp drove off, just before two squads of our local police pulled up, the first cop a woman in her 30's who made sure we'd given the license number to dispatch (we had).

6. When a charge is a Felony all the funny drops off like a ton of bricks
Photos and a couple of witnesses willing to go down and press charges would stop that man from doing anything quite that stupid for a very long time. It is very expensive and time consuming to defend oneself against a Felony charge.

9. Thanks, feeling better by the day.
Staples and some plumbing come out next week, then I'll dance in the rain.

Just kidding of course.

It really does seem sort of incomprehensible to me why a whole lot more people aren't being hauled into court in this country, from petition-ripping idiots to pepper-spray wielding cops. Put the cuffs on them and let them find out how much Lawyers really charge, that might adjust their behavior just a little bit.

7. Right, and he's the one guy who SHOULD be
Not really. Not many people should -- I'm just engaging in a little fantasizing.

10. What a stupid man.
He's bought himself a ton of trouble, and possibly prison time, and what did he gain for it? Tearing up those few pages won't stop the recall. Crazy.

I think people are being driven to near insanity by the likes of Rush and Fox News.

12. Petition people need to have one person there at all times to take down license plates,
to snap cell phone pics, to videotape, etc., to have evidence for felony trials.

Knowing they could end up in prison might just deter some of the idiots.

13. Don't count on a cell phone camera
Carry an easy to draw, point and shoot camera. I always find it awkward to get to the camera function on any of the cell phones I've had and I would not count on the resolution to record a license plate at any reasonable distance.

Seems like a good security measure these days.
