I'd wake up in the morning with candy wrappers, granola bar wrappers, ice cream bar wrappers on the nightstand...and not remember eating those things!
I finally told my husband to hide the goodies where they couldn't be found, and in the case of ice cream bars--just stopped buying them.
Luckily, I don't have much need for this drug anymore--most of this happened in the months after my mom's death. Sleep was hard to come by.
I'm still having trouble getting rid of the extra 20 pounds, though!

That always cracks me up. Why on earth would they list something that you want the drug to do as a freaking side effect?
It Makes No Sense.

But an antidepressant that might make you suicidal has no business being on the market.

11. I don't think you understand the definition of "side effect". |
|
It refers to any condition that was noted during the trial phase of drug approval; it does not mean it was necessarily caused by the drug.

21. You don't understand anti-depressants |
|
People are unique. What makes one person suicidal can save another person's life. That's the case with me and Paxil. It helps me, but other people have adverse effects. Meanwhile, meds that have helped other people have made me worse.
That's why it's a simple matter of observing patients until the effects of an anti-depressant are known. Observation protects people, so that the suicidal thoughts (IF they occur) aren't acted upon. The feeling wears off when the pill does.
Taking anti-depressants off the market isn't the answer, because that would harm or kill many more people. Observation is the answer, as any good psychiatrist can tell you.

Any suicide should be investigated as to the use of antidepressants by the person who committed suicide. By the time they're dead they don't care about HIPAA laws, unless their families care. But wouldn't people want to let the data be gathered and studied? And shouldn't people be warned before deciding on taking antidepressants that this can be a side effect? Wouldn't it at least help people to know, if they feel these thoughts, they can think first, wait a minute, it might be the drugs I am taking . . . . and maybe they can postpone following through with the urge to just do it?
And I'm not joking about the homicidal part, either. Could it be used as a defense? I don't know. Can it be causing these things to happen? I think it is very possible.

6. Ambien has horrible side effects... |
|
in my case it helped me get to sleep at night but kept me doped up like a Quaalude all day long. Memory loss and confusion started after about two weeks. It took a month after I stopped using it for the problems to stop and , yes, it made me sleepy suddenly in the middle of the day.

7. And because of lawsuits |
|
if they didn't include that obvious assertion someone would fall asleep driving or whatever and then sue because sleepiness wasn't listed as a side effect. LOL. Legal crap is a hoard of nonsense sometimes. You have to spell out common sense.

8. Something most people don't know about drug side-effects... |
|
When they list a whole bunch of things? Those aren't necessarily side-effects that were caused by the drug, but anything that was reported by trial users. So if a few people in the trial happen to have dry mouth, dry mouth gets listed as a potential side effect.

I stumbled around in a trance-like state for hours, going from house to house in the middle of the night. I wandered into one neighbor's house and almost got shot. When I finally found my home I was wearing nothing but my boxers. The next morning my neighbor brought over my cell phone and my wallet (containing $300) which he found on his back porch. I don't know what happened to the rest of the clothes I was wearing. I don't remember much about that night; I mostly remember being scared to death. After that happened to me, I met several other people who told me about similar things that happened to them. I think that drug should be taken off the market.

24. Yes! The serious sleepwalking. |
|
I have heard about this too and had a relative that had this stuff prescribed when all he needed was a simple sleeping pill, and he wasn't even warned about what he was getting. And where are the plain old sleeping pills that simply help you get sleepy? Do they even make those anymore?
There have been cases of sleep-DRIVING, too.

26. Most doctors won't prescribe any of the |
|
old sleeping meds. They only want to give you the new and more expensive meds, such as Ambien and Lunesta. They claim that the newer meds are less dangerous and less habit-forming, but I think it has a lot more to do with the drug reps who are constantly going in and out of their offices. I met a guy who had sleep-driven a couple of times while taking Ambien. It just makes you wonder how many other awful things one might be capable of while taking that medicine.

All drugs in this class are linked to cancer. I am at such high risk for another horrible thing this is treating that I don't have much choice. Yay kidney disease!
