14. It's a sign of fear
on the part of the authorities.

I have no doubts now that this is being federally coordinated.

They're scared shitless of a real revolution.

I guess there's no crime in LA except peaceful protesters.

4. LAPD doesn't mess around.
Neither does LASD.

They've got to be ready to handle some big scenarios. So actually in the scheme of things this is small scale for them in comparison to the probably 7-8000 officers the Police and Sheriff's could put on the street at any one time.

5. Why are the wearing Hazmat suits?
Just saw a comment on one of the livestreams that the cops are saying 'it's going to get very dangerous'.

Philly and LA, they are determined to stop this movement, all that money being spent, I wonder who is paying for this ridiculous show of force against American citizens protesting peacefully?

11. Their latest bit of police theater.
How much do you want to bet that there's next to nothing in terms of human waste to be found?

They're just doing it to make a spectacle for FOX News and give them a talking point to use against the "dirty commie hippies".

12. Why? How ridiculous, since that has never been a problem.
Looks more like they are trying to create an 'impression' as outlined in the memo to the Banks.

Or maybe they are using the kind of gas that was used in Egypt which killed some of the protesters there.

They sure are scared of the American people speaking out about the corruption and crime that has nearly destroyed, and has destroyed so many countries.

13. Simple Question.
Have you ever had to work in an area where there may have been human waste? I have. It's not a pleasant thought, and it's not a pleasant experience. I'd have been thankful for such protection.

16. You're repeating yourself. You're talking about something else.
Your situation, whatever it was, is not relevant here. You are going along with the false claims that there has ever been any problem with human waste at the occupation. Too many witnesses for them to get away with attempting to create this false impression.

This is pure theater and it is sickening to see this government refuse to address the people's grievances and to brutalize Americans they way they have.

They look ridiculous. Big, brave cops! Whoever is running this show is not very bright as these tactics have completely failed already. And we saw the memo.

27. There was no question that relates to this issue.
You were off topic. I prefer to stay ON topic.

You are taking about something that is not relevant at all and attempting to attach it to this situation for some reason, hopefully out of ignorance of the actual facts.

The filth that needs cleaning up is far more threatening than anything that can be found at these wonderful occupations and those people are true patriots.

These cops are working for the banks, we have ample proof of that now, with more being revealed every day and anyone defending this is going to be on the wrong side of history. Their house of cards is falling, no matter how many riot cops they send out, they cannot stop it and that is why they are so scared. Europe is on the verge of collapse, because of corruption and crime and no one being held accountable, and what scares them so much now is that the PEOPLE KNOW what they did. Sending out their stupid toy soldiers will not solve anything.

35. Plumbing - Regulated Health and Safety Procedures
It is important to address health and safety concerns in all home renovation projects, especially the plumbing. Not only should you follow the basic guidelines, such as wearing safety goggles, dust masks, and other protective gear, but there are also numerous factors that should be taken into consideration. Unlike some other renovation projects, plumbing can be a very frustrating and even dangerous process if you do not follow the regulated health and safety procedures.

39. Meh, I"ve worked around plumbers for decades..
You'd get laughed off the jobsite if you showed up in a hazmat suit for anything less than asbestos abatement.

And *everything* about renovation can be frustrating and dangerous, it's much more difficult and hazardous than new construction.

But LAPD is dealing with some unknowns here and so they are being pre-cautious. Can't hate on workers for wanting some protection unless you've got an ulterior political agenda.

They are by no means comfortable since they they block airflow to the body, even in moderate temperatures you overheat very quickly and the inside gets sopping wet from your sweat.

But if I had access to one I would have worn it; used a leaf blower to clear dust/litter from bunkers. Other people refused to participate without one. I just bundled up like a mummy and used a cheap respirator.

34. They are NOT protecting themselves, they are protecting the
Banks and Corporations. You are on DU where people are not fooled as easily as they are elsewhere. People here do their homework, and since you have not been to OccupyLA it appears you have not done yours. That is the only reason why you could possibly be falling for this.

As for the media, did you read the memo about undermining OWS? We don't have a free press, we have a corporate owned media. If that is where you are getting your info, then that explains your position. No one pays attention the MSM anymore, they are not credible. They are becoming totally irrelevant.

38. Not sure why you linked to something that actually proves you
wrong and confirms what most people who HAVE been to these occupations have said.

"I'm very comfortable right here," Pierieto said. "I don't have to smell urine. I don't have to see people smoking crack. I have porta-potties right here. It's peaceful."

You know what a porta potty is don't you? And you know that the occupiers form groups all of whom have jobs, and that the cleanest part of LA is probably right there where the occupiers are, as this formerly homeless man points out, he no longer has to smell urine etc, because now he is with people who keep the place clean. There is no doubt about this. Thanks for proving it.

As for the homeless, why are there so many homeless in LA?? Why is the city spending all this money on harassing peaceful, law-abiding citizens instead of dealing with the problem of crime and homelessness??

The homeless were not created by the occupiers, this is the shame of the city and it is they who ought to be held accountable for the fact that nothing has been done about this problem.

No other country has this huge homeless problem. What a stupid waste of resources and anyone in office who has allowed these brutal attacks on civilians to continue, hopefully will be removed in the next election.

That is one good thing about all these riots caused by the police on the orders of elected officials. We now know so much more about these people. We know mostly, that they will have to go and will work towards that all over the country.

40. Because they're on Antonio Villaraigosa's lawn...
Anybody who's watched him over the years knows he's a punk. They should have pulled out and focused on the port protest on Dec. 12.

Why are there so many homeless in LA: http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-lopez16oct16-series,0,3994447.special

Why are occupiers defying a police order and making the city spend all these resources over a park area? The funny thing is that many of these same people would say L.A. needs more green spaces. This is not the only way to protest.

Bet the DHS funding bought all that fancy SWAT gear and plenty of training.

I have been watching on LA CBS 2; before 11:45 or so only Faux 11 was live and CBS / NBC / ABC were regular programming on satelite TV.

Caught half a good interview with Johnny Depp on Letterman.
