Howard Dean: Don't primary Obama.
Edited on Mon Dec-13-10 06:36 PM by BzaDem
Howard Dean:

“I don't think he's going to face an opponent in the Democratic primary. I think that would be a bad thing for the country and I think it would be a bad thing for the Democratic party. The history of people running against presidents in their own party is the challenger loses and then the president is weakened and loses."

Maybe that will at least result in Howard Dean's name be taken off all the fantasy primary polls here. No, I'm not posting this because I'm trying to convince you to vote for Obama in the primary. I suspect many of you won't, and he'll still win unopposed by any serious candidate. I just wonder why I keep hearing ideas that someone rational like Dean or Grayson would ever do anything to help elect a Republican in 2013.

1. Howard Dean is a statesman. But if Obama is taken Hostage by the
Republicans, what are the struggling people of this great country to do?

2. Dean is the only candidate from the usual suspects that could seriously pose a threat. nt

4. So? What does Dean know?
Isn't he the one that came up with that 50 state strategy? Look where that got us.

5. We can still *hope*.
Wow, it's amazing how much I now dislike that word thanks to Obama.

6. not unprecedented ...
of course, watch the Repugniconvicts, who were so adamant that they weren't all for George W. Bush that they had absolutely no primaries in 2004, scream bloody murder that "we" are playing dirty politics ...

7. I think the good doctor is keeping his powder dry
He knows what happens when you blurt things out too soon.
In reality, the best thing for Obama to do would be to step aside and let Democrats choose another candidate for 2012. Hopefully someone he respects will take him aside and talk him into it.

9. He didn't have to say that a primary challenger would hurt the country. If he was keeping his powder
Edited on Mon Dec-13-10 07:09 PM by BzaDem
dry, he could have just said "I'm not running" or "I have no plans to run."

"Hopefully someone he respects will take him aside and talk him into it."

Do you realize how out of touch with reality that sounds? Obama is literally the most popular President with Democrats we have had since JFK himself. Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean a non-negligible portion of Democrats agree wtih you.

12. Not sure why you're digging in here. You are in a tiny minority. The vast majority of Democrats

and even liberal Democrats approve of Obama. In every poll.

Just because you are in denial about reality doesn't somehow mean reality isn't reality.

16. I hate to tell break this to you, but many of us lied to the pollsters.
Edited on Mon Dec-13-10 08:45 PM by Tesha
"Of course we love Obama!"

I don't do this any more, though. Now, I tell them
what I really think. I suspect I'm not alone in this,
so watch those poll numbers for some "adjustment".

11. How bad will Obama's polls have to get...
...before even you will decide he should go?

Dean (and many other Democrats) will also be making
that same calculation, no matter how much they deny
it today?

13. Let me put it this way. As of right now, he is the MOST popular president with Democrats this
country has had in 50 years.

So obviously he is doing something right (even if it pisses you off immensely).

I just am saddened to see my party destroyed.
