Key Republican hails ‘fabulous’ plan to slash Social Security, Medicare

WASHINGTON – The top Republican on the Senate budget committee championed a plan to drastically cut Social Security and Medicare, another in a series of signs that the GOP is gearing up to try and slash the cherished programs.

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) on Monday praised the "roadmap" put forth by his Republican House counterpart, budget committee chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), which would largely privatize Social Security and voucherize Medicare.

"Ryan has done a fabulous thing," Sessions said on ABC's Top Line. "He's developed a plan that goes 60 years, and he deals with Social Security and Medicare. A lot of those changes don't take place until the distant years of the future, but his whole plan and approach is fabulous -- we need to be listening to it, the president needs to be engaging it."

Sessions joins House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), who on Sunday said Congress ought to "embrace" the direction of the plan in order to cut spending and reduce the national debt.

4. They sell it to the existing old folks by
making the draconian cuts come into effect after they are long dead. BAsically, they tell them that this will only effect the next generation and hope they buy it. Run this through the gargantuan right-wing 24/7 hate machine and, sadly, many seniors will buy it.

5. The Democrats need to introduce
legislation that would slash the pensions of members of Congress and force them to depend on Social Security, just like most Americans. It would be wonderful to see those Republicans try to wiggle their way out of that.

11. You got that right
here in WI our new governor was saying that the public employees should catch up with the rest of the employers...that pensions haven't been offered in private business for over 10 years...yet he doesn't mention their pensions, just the teachers, cops, firemen, road workers and garbage collectors.

16. Yet he's continually re-elected by wide margins...
...which would make him an apt representation of his constituents.

8. He looks like my daughter's cabbage patch doll after she played with it in the sandbox.
He saw some numbers he liked in the year 2040, but he will be long gone from the Senate by then.
The major cuts in their plan don't go into effect for years.

And it requires the use of the blood of humans.
