I think Minnesota is a great state but seriously.....
Edited on Tue Jan-25-11 04:07 PM by LynneSin
What kind of cosmic mind-sapping aliens are allowing an idiot like Michelle Bachmann to be elected again and again? I mean it seems some of the folks that live in the 6th congressional district are immune to this power but enough are affected that Bachmann gets elected again and again.

I mean it's one thing to have a representative who is uber-conservative, I can almost see that - there are districts around the country with representatives that are hard-core to the right.

But this woman is re-inventing HISTORY and yet she still gets re-elected.

I mean is there a gathering of those who live in MN-06 district who thinks it is neat to elect a representative that couldn't pass a basic 7th grade history test? I mean, I'd like to think when I vote someone to represent me that they are at least as smart as I am and probably a bit smarter. Probably why I scoffed at the idea of Christine O'Donnell as a senator.

So I am guessing that there has to be some brain-sucking alien that resides in MN-06 because I can't figure out any other reason why sane people would vote for this idiot.

For those of you who live in MN-06 who are DUers or lurking progressives, my heart goes out to you and I'm grateful that you have not been overcome by this menance!

1. "can't figure out any other reason why sane people would vote for this idiot"
I can assure you that it's not sane people who vote for that idiot.

How so many insane people all landed in MN-06...don't have a clue. We used to be a much better state.

6. It's the "ex-urbs" NW of The Cities. Ex-urbs tend to be very RW.
Lot of people there that moved there from out of state.

2. Apparently, she's a big fund raiser.
Here is her Open Secrets fundraising profile. http://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/summary.php?cid=N00027493 Maybe this is at the bottom of her "success".

3. Her district is where most of the loonies in our state concentrate.
Lots of conservative German Catholics and Ex-Urban Evangelicals.

9. Maybe that's not a bad idea
Put all the loonies into one district so they feel happy they have a loonie representing them. Then the rest of the state gets normal folks along with 2 decent senators

It's the dreaded suburban Twin Cities dystopia out past Anoka area.
It's like some kind of evil twin to Lake Wobegone. All the women are weak, all the men are ugly, and all the children are below average.

4. MN-06 is weirdly gerrymandered.
It consists of some rich wingnut suburban areas and some fundy wacko blue-collar areas and Stearns County, which is arch-Catholic anti-choice territory. There is also an urban legend regarding the so-called "Stearns County Syndrome," said to be the result of excessive inbreeding. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Stearns%20County%20Syndrome

Think "Deliverance" with snow.

10. In Illinois has a couple bad districts making up what I call the FIB-belt that yielded bitter fruit.
IL-5: Rahm Emanuel preceded by Blagojevich

IL-13: Rumsfeld

At least for your representation. I highly doubt I'd give up someone like Al Franken for Tom Carper. Chris Coons maybe.

And like I said - it seems like not everyone in the district is affected by these mind-sapping aliens. Just be careful ok!

8. Not only that, but she avoids non-McPravda press like the plague.
Literally. I saw a video of her physically running from reporters asking her questions at a county fair. This woman is so deathly afraid of the real world it's comedic.

And if someone calls her on her nutjobbery, she merely sticks to the script like an idiot.

11. maybe she takes care of business?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDHPiCguCIs&feature=related

She gave a speech that was "rah rah sky u mah, hoo-ray for America" many people are not gonna get all nit-picky and scholarly about the history in it, especially if they agree with the general sentiment "America is great"

I am not sure if Turner Overdrive is any worse than my dipty doo of a dishonest Congresswoman, and somehow she even beat an incumbent. Now she gets re-elected because of her million dollar war chest and huge advantage in name recognition. The Kansas Democratic Party doesn't have a bunch of heavy hitter willing to take her on.

12. There's also this:

Look at the circled area. There's a guy standing there, and to his left you can see somebody crouching down behind the hedge. That's Bachmann, spying on a gay rights rally while trying to avoid being seen by Teh Gays, or by the media.

However dreadful you think she is, she is actually much worse. She's Sarah Palin without the gun fetish.

Edit: Come to think of it, she does have a bit of a gun fetish. Not too long ago she said she wanted the people of Minnesota to be "armed and dangerous." I should have said she doesn't have Palin's hunting fetish; as far as I know she doesn't claim to hunt wolves from a helicopter. But she does indulge in violent rhetoric on a regular basis, just as much as Palin.
