Another Republican radio station bites the dust KVI Seattle

GOP loses its radio voice as KVI switches to music
In its heyday, Seattle talk station KVI-AM was a powerful engine for local Republican politics. But all that came to an end just after the November election, when the station switched to an "oldies" music format. KVI's demise has left a void for local Republicans

1. Rightwingers still have a lock on the public airwaves
The changes at KVI may be more of an indication of market saturation than the demise of conservative talk radio. KVI admitted they could not compete with the 'Big Boys' who had the money to pay the asking price for shows like Limbaugh and Hannity.

What KVI did was move to a radio format that was an order of magnitude less expensive to broadcast than conservative talk. It allows them to keep some of their advertising dollars as profit instead of bleeding it away to corporations in Palm Beach or New York.

The sad truth is that we have too much talk radio and not enough local programming. A controlled application of the Fairness Doctrine could go a long way in fixing that.

2. At least Seattle has AM1090....
I used to listen to it everyday in Tennessee until the company started blocking internet radio.
