Egypt unrest: Alert as mass protests loom

The government says it is open to dialogue but also warned of "decisive measures" as the fourth day of violent protests loomed.

Widespread disruption has been reported to the internet and mobile phone messaging services.

There are also reports of arrests of opposition figures overnight.

The reported crackdown on the largest opposition movement, the Muslim Brotherhood, came after it said it would back the Friday protests.

On Thursday, Egyptian opposition figure and Nobel laureate Mohamed ElBaradei returned to Cairo, promising to join the street protests.

Yes, Tehran comes to mind in another decade....

And I forgot, until Rachel reminded me... tomorrow IS Friday... pay attention to BOTH Yemen and Egypt... Friday, after prayers... again Tehran.

9. I agree - while in the USA sphere of influence the smart and
"American" way would have been to move the governments to liberal democratic secular peaceful societies.

Blowback is another word.

Wonder what will happen with the major basing agreement with Yemen on Soetero (sp) Island?

I haven't agreed with our foreign policy since the late 60s.

There is much the pattern of bases and agreements and puppets in Latin America as in North Africa.

North Africa and the Arab world is going to be in the news cycle and the results may not favor the humanity or the USA.

By coincidence, I am about 200 pages into "A Peace to End All Peace" (Fromkin) about the Fall of the Ottoman Empire. I highly recommend the book.
