Man 'Locked Wife In Cellar For 16 Years'

A man has been arrested in Brazil after he allegedly kept his wife locked up in a cellar for 16 years.

Suspect was arrested by Brazilian police

Joao Batista Groppo, 64, was detained along with his girlfriend who was held on suspicion of being an accomplice.

Groppo's wife was discovered in a filthy and dark cellar in the southeastern city of Sorocaba, said a police inspector.

The suspect's girlfriend claimed he locked up the woman because she was mentally ill and aggressive.
