The MINUTE Obama signed the tax bill, the Republicans start taking hostages again!

They're holding the START treaty hostage, demanding that Reid not bring up DADT or the Dream Act tommorrow!

WHY was this so hard for Obama to figure out? Lucy, Charlie Brown and the football.

All he had to do was sit there holding the tax cut bill HOSTAGE till they let the votes on the other bills come up!

GEEZ!

33. Right. He's not gonna give away Social Security, though.
He's hanging onto that to trade for another 6 month extension of Unemployment benefits when the 13 months run out.

Can't say the guy's not clever.

70. Actually, there is a third option.
I read this idea way back before O. was even elected. It goes like this. Shortly after whomever wins the election, he attends a meeting where a video is shown of the motorcade in Dallas. The camera clearly shows that JFK was not shot by the Lone Nut, but rather by operatives paid by the "people" who really control the country. After the video is over, he is told that Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy were handled in a similar fashion and then is asked, "Any questions?"

it is a kind of chess game afterall, perhaps?

Though it seemed to me that once Obama picked his "team," I thought he had

There is talk on the internet about Obama's mother and he -- and the father

and step-father having CIA connections.

Looks like they've pretty much taken over everything?

Is there anyone anymore who isn't CIA?

41. DU absolutely cracks me up.
No one in the administration thought that the compromise tax bill would lead to the GOP acting any differently on ANY of these issues. No one. And certainly not Obama.

But I find it hilarious that so many on DU connect the two events as proof that Obama expected the GOP to play nice after that tax bill passed.

If the tax bill didn't pass, if there was no compromise, they'd be doing the same thing anyway.

All this breathlessness on DU is hilarious.

The Republicans are negotiating for their base supporters. Rich, homophobes and anti-immigration. Too bad the Democrats have no interest in their base supporters any longer.
Shame of this is that 5 Senate Dems voted against the Dream Act today, enough to give the 60 votes necessary to move forward.

49. We'll have a Democratic Party winner in 2012
Don't worry about the presidential election in 2012. Obama will be re-elected.

The key is the fact that it takes a "Democrat" to destroy Social Security. A repig could never accomplish it. Remember, not every Dem congressperson is in on the fix, so it takes party affiliation to push the mega-ripoff of the century over the top.

Once the fat cats get Social Security, I predict a wholesale emmigration of those fat cats to overseas destinations. We will be left to be the mercenary army for them, and wallow in misery & debt slavery. A fascist party will come into power in 2016 and clamp down on all civil liberties "for our safety". There will be a false flag operation or two to terrorize remaining Americans into agreeing to those clamp downs.

There WILL be a few crumbs left here, but the educated upper middle class (doctors, lawyers, professors) will be fighting over those. If you don't have at least a Master's degree (not MBA!) from a top 50 school, you'd better learn camping & farming skills.

Wait, all the public lands will be privatized so there'll be nowhere to camp. In fact, "where will we sleep" will become the most pressing question in Brave New Amerika.

50. He just signed a TAX INCREASE on one-third of workers.
Not only does this horrible bill put SS in jeopardy, it will give many people a tax increase. Because SS payroll taxes are taken out before your withholding is, a 2% decrease in payroll taxes leaves more money as taxable income, so your pathetic $100 or so will be further reduced because withholding will come out of it. He has fucked us over on this deal. It also gets rid of the Making Work Pay tax credit, which nearly everyone got the entire $400. This will be an tax increase for those on the bottom.

56. This is one that will be pointed to for generations.

As the time the Republicans wouldn't pass a treaty to reduce nuclear weapons because they wanted to continue to oppress gays and deny people who have been in the country since childhood equal status.

It will be remembered as a period when a cold-hearted, dark-minded, dimwitted party simultaneously proved its criminal agenda domestically and internationally. The Repubs behind this should be sent seppeku blades with detailed, idiot-proof instructions on how to use.

67. You don't fix what is not broken.
It is a game plan that has worked flawlessly for them.

The reason that hostage takers and terrorists are not negotiated with is because it creates more of them. over the last decade America has forgotten that.

68. Perhaps it is because Obama never really wanted to repeal DADT
He hasn't done much for gay people so far. Why change now? It isn't as if he has ever shown he actually gives a shit. All he's ever done is throw some crumbs.

75. So, are you all shocked and disappointed that DADT was repealed?
Since this messes up your story line?

76. The repukes only relent on issues that they KNOW there is no hope.
For all other issues they will obstruct until the end of time.

78. He's just not into you.
I add this after the vote on DADT, which again was more Nancy Pelosi, but the point remains.

He's just not into you.

82. So bitter
Obama promised it would happen this year and it did. But there are those that will always refuse to give him credit.

85. Bitter? No. Just giving Nancy Pelosi the credit and also
the Log Cabin (R)'s for having it declared unconstitutional.

Onto 2011 ... Now, no supermajority.
