1. well, since the domino theory was used to justify intervention
against the spread of Communism, it would be rapt irony, if it actually worked in reverse-- to spread democracy.

Nice pic

13. Seriously?
Edited on Sun Jan-30-11 07:51 AM by Leftist Agitator
You know, a hijab is not a burqa. Most Muslim women wear the hijab because they want to, as a sign of their faith. I know a Muslim woman here in the US who wears a hijab with a Louis Vuitton logo.

Also, would you say, "Lose the yarmulke (or crucifix) or trade one tyranny for another?"

16. Muslim women who don't wear the hijab take a ton of abuse too.
I wouldn't say they have much "choice" or they "choose to" in order to go out without abuse.

17. I have muslim women friends in the UAE, Jordan
Edited on Sun Jan-30-11 08:23 AM by sabrina 1
and in Iraq. None of them have to wear the hijab. Their husbands don't care whether they do or not, but they wear it, sometimes, because they like it, same way people wear scarves here. My Iraqi friend is no longer in Iraq because since the western crusaders wrecked her country, all her rights as a woman, equal pay, wear whatever you want etc are gone. But in Saddam's Iraq she wore blue jeans and no one bothered her.

All of them were very surprised to know how the people in the U.S. viewed them and my friend in the UAE thought it was funny that people here thought she HAD to wear certain clothes. I told them to blame it on Fox News.

21. Arab/Muslim countries are as different as European countries.
Saudi Arabia is not Jordan or Saddam's Iraq eg. Nor is it the UAE.

And the rich in Saudi Arabia when they go to Europe, can wear whatever they want. It's all hypocrisy with them.

18. Trade a head scarf for secret police, political prisoners and torture. Tough call?
For moderate Muslims to triumph, political openness will work better than oppressive regimes. Fundamentalist Muslims (or Christians or Jews) don't thrive on openness but on using government power and violence to their ends.

His cartoons are sometimes simplistic, but I guess you sometimes have to be simplistic to deliver a point as quickly as possible.

By the way, he's a Carioca like me.
