Amazing reports about massive Midwest storm
Edited on Tue Feb-01-11 09:44 PM by tabatha
Here are some Twitter reports aggregated from a variety of sources, illustrating the power, severity and danger of this historic winter storm:

CNNweather: The 13.2" measured in Tulsa breaks the 1-day record, and breaks the record for most snow during the month of February, all in 1 day.

TWCBreaking: An incredible 5" of snow in 90 minutes in Miami, OK

JimCantore: From Tulsa NWS: MEDIA REPORTS CONTINUE TO INDICATE THERE ARE SEVERAL HUNDRED PEOPLE STRANDED IN CARS ACROSS NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA.

TWC Breaking: Where has the heaviest snow fallen so far? Northeast Oklahoma into southwest Missouri. Roughly 15 to 21".

TWC Breaking: Kansas City Int'l Airport CLOSED

JimCantore: Radar from Chicago shows intense area of 2" to 3" per hour snowfall rates about 45 minutes south of Chicago metro area <6:30 p.m. ET>

WeatherBugMedia: WOW! NWS CHI: Before making the decision to travel, consider if getting to your destination is worth putting your life at risk.

breakingweather (AccuWeather): More than 1 people from the Midwest to Northeast could be without power due to ice downing tree limbs and powerlines.

CNNweather: Ice Storm Warning issued for Indianapolis. Roads will become impassable due to icing. Widespread, long-duration power outages are likely.

TWCBreaking: Wind chills as low as -36 at Boise City, OK. Per NWS...this is the lowest wind chill recorded by the Oklahoma mesonet!

TWCBreaking: First ever "hard freeze" warning issued by the DFW National Weather Service.

WeatherBugMedia: Woodstock Willie - IL's version of @GroundhogPhil - won't be coming out. Organizers have canceled the "Feb. 2 prognostication" for 2011

Thank the Lord I am in CA, even with its earthquakes, floods, fire.

Be safe, those who are under this mess.

1. I'm in the Tulsa metro area
I'm in the Tulsa metro area. I have about 18 inches of snow on the patio table under the pergola. There are drifts to 5 feet or so. My gate is frozen to the brick on the side of the house - and buried in a snowdrift. Windy and dangerously cold. Emergency responders are having a hard time navigating roads. There are several major road closures. I doubt the city owns even 10 snowplows - so residential streets will not be cleared. American Airllines maintenance facility closed for first time in nearly 65 years. There is supposed to be another snowstorm coming through Sunday or Monday. In the meantime bitterly cold below zero temps are expected for Tuesady, Wednesday and Thursday night. It'll be awhile before it warms up and thaws much. The good news is that there have been few reports of electric and other utility outages. Looks like even under the best circumstances, I may be housebound for a week or more.

6. Here in Denver, it's 17 below and will go to 21 below tonight.
Wind chill will be 30 below by 6 am tomorrow, and my girls' two schools are in session.

Crazy.
