I don't prepare for getting hit by a bus either, or for the Rapture, or for nuclear apocalypse.

I should plan better for a major earthquake, which around these parts over the next couple of decades is a near-certainty.

Please google "cheap home security". For under a few hundred dollars you can discourage most crooks.

play mean dog barking. Goes through garage doors and gets louder as the motion gets closer.

I have a fake tv light that imitates a tv's changing light on a curtain. It comes on at dark and can be set for 4 hrs or 8 hrs. Makes it appear that someone is up watching tv at night. Only about 20 bucks. Fake alarm system window stickers are only a few bucks. A package of 3 inch screw for a few bucks can replace your hinge and striker screws in doors, making it hard to kick them in. Motion detector lights for 20 bucks are great too.

Old fart here. That show was almost past my time. ;)

when Bob came over one night and knocked on the door, she hit "play", then opened the door and Bob peered in and then saw it was a tape recorder and said, "their bark is worse than their bite."

It was a group of teens who kept dinging the bell then running off, then one of them tried to kick the door. I think he must've had on flip flops because he cursed loudly and ran off. We have a metal front door with an extra-long lock so his foot wasn't going nowhere through that space.

We lock the doors. We have a big dog that will bark if anything is odd (like when our neighbor had a fire). My husband has a gun, but I'm only a little sure where it is, and have no idea how to operate it...and I have no desire to know how to shoot.

63. Depends On How Many Houses I Plan To Invade That Day
Edited on Wed Feb-02-11 02:28 AM by jberryhill

But, you should really spend about 15 or 20 minutes at least, before you break in.

Running in with no plan is not usually a good idea, so it does take just a little time and thought before you gain entry - and a good deal of that is thinking about how you will gain entry.

So, for four houses, you should allow yourself at least an hour of thinking about it.

takes about 3-4 minutes to get out the door. After a break-in I spent many days and sleepless night hours thinking about it till I got the alarm and cameras. I can't recommend a certain amount of hours because it depends on where you live and what vaulables you want to protect. Does that answer your question (?) which I don't think was serious to begin with. :eyes:

Edited on Wed Feb-02-11 04:04 AM by NuclearDem
I mean, come on, I'm busy between broadcasting conspiracy theories out of my HAM radio in the basement and stockpiling insecticides, I only get a couple hours to clean all my guns and make sure all my cameras are working...

73. One minute to lock the doors, plus 30 seconds to check my gun per day, plus fifteen minutes to clean
it a week, plus a couple hours a month at the shooting range. Plus a couple more minutes a month buying ammo etc.

I sleep pretty safe, but I wish I still had my dog.

82. I think about it some. I lock doors, keep my windows closed at night.
Six months ago, some poor homeowner in my town surprised a burglar early in the morning as he prepared to leave for work, and was shot to death.

84. Since I was burgled over the holidays
(hardly qualifies as a home invasion, but still)

Pack up laptop. Put it in car. Lock door.

Two steps I never had to worry about before. I've been leaving my door open for 15 years. It makes me sad to have to do that, because I'd grown used to my neighbors popping in to say hi, or to borrow stuff, or my daughter's friends coming and going, even if I wasn't home.

85. 3-12 months.
You got to dig the moat around your house, plant the landmines, build up the walls around your house, fortify your roof, and make sure you have your nuclear-missile proof bunker installed underneath your house with proper escape routes well away from your house. Stock up on food for 3 years, have means to get fresh water from somewhere other than the outside world (and the ability to dispose of that waste) and the means to generate heat, warmth, cooling if needs be and other electrical needs.

Once you've done that... I don't think any small country would invade your house, let alone the FBI.

92. All day
I pretty much stare at the door all day long.
Sometimes I try to watch TV, but I hate taking my eyes off the door.
I am thinking of moving the TV by the door, but my bed is there and I sleep with one eye open.

93. My biggest concern is making sure my cats are indoors after dark
I don't want them outside when coyotes are out.

As for human invaders, I keep my valuables locked in a safe, except for a few weapons which are strategically placed near entry points.

At 8:55pm while the guards are assembling with their pots of boiling oil on the roof. 9:00pm doors locked, feet up, munch popcorn.

102. Well ... Since I leave in Arizona ....
52 miles from the southern border and leave in the epticent of fear and hate ...

I spend exactly zero hours thinking about/preparing for the home invasions that the teapartiers/border-protectors tell me are happening all around me.

There was a home invasion just down the street, but apparently, they were drug dealers.
