Either Mubarak goes now - or his regime never goes
Thugs don't do orderly transitions. They only understand force.

If Mubarak does not go now, while things are hot, his regime will reorganize and all will be lost.

I'm stunned that elected officials don't get this basic truth that history teaches.

1. This is my feeling as well. He may be stalling to save face but...
...it doesn't matter too much what his motivations are, it's the appearance it gives. And the appearance it gives is him trying to keep holding on.

2. I agree. The bottom line is that Mubarak has had 30 years to do
what he alluded to in his speech today. I hope the protesters have the strength to hold their position and continue to protest.

3. I Agree
Elections are extremely corrupt. A few years ago, the opposition had 30% of the seats in the first round of elections. After a third round, they had zero seats.

4. Tell it to the Egyptians.
The statements clearly suggest that he step down now. Should Obama remove him by force?

7. I imagine the behind-the-scenes pressure is intense. Maybe he's just waiting
till his funds are safely stowed away before he bolts. Please, God.

8. I think that he's trying to work out a deal
where he can retain his freedom in another country. If he thinks that he will automatically returned to Egypt after his exile, he won't stand anything to lose if he stays and fights.

9. I believe that is why
Obama made his speech today. He is getting intransigence from Mubarack.
