Fox News solicits for 'experts' to refute 'the ridiculousness' of Al Gore
Source: Gawker

Fox News science columnist Gene Koprowski has a long history of standing up against this "global warming" foolishness.

... Koprowski posted this request to Profnet, the service that brings together desperate journalists and publicity-hungry sources:

1. ENVIRONMENT/TODAY: Global Warming Causing More Snow? Come Again? — FoxNews.com
Deadline: Feb 01, 2011 11:00 PM EST

Former Vice President Al Gore told Bill O'Reilly that: "A rise in global temperature can create all sorts of havoc, ranging from hotter dry spells to colder winters, along with increasingly violent storms, flooding, forest fires and loss of endangered species." We need comments from someone who can point out the ridiculousness of his argument, even if you accept the somewhat-implausible argument. I've been assigned this story just now by Fox News in New York for the science and technology desk. I'm looking for comments. Please send comments via e-mail. Please send your name, title and company you represent. Please send comments by 10 p.m. CST. Contact: Gene Koprowski, (redacted)

1. How does their science columnist know the argument is ridiculous without knowing why it's ridiculous
And, I'm really curious as to how he thinks someone can both accept the argument and also point out that the argument is ridiculous.

3. because he works for fox news
the station that creates the story then fills in the facts to "support" the story later on. If you work for Fox you know Al Gore will say ridiculous things before a word comes from his mouth.

4. One consolation is that many of the CEOs denying global warming...
probably have beachfront homes.

I've had three comments today from scoffers of global warming/climate change. What bothers me is that none of these people are ignorant...not by a long shot, although they are all Repugs.

5. The moran deniers have trouble with basic concepts like the difference between weather and climate
I, for one, wish the term were Global Climate Disruption instead of Global Warming. Yes, the Earth is definitely getting warmer -- the trend is unmistakable -- but those who can't distinguish weather from climate point to a blizzard and say, "Hah! What happened to so-called Global Warming?"

On the other hand, almost anyone, including the dimmest Freeper, would probably concede that the weather (yes, weather, not climate) has been pretty strange in the last decade.

7. Al Gore might be ridiculous
but not because he understands global warming and promotes awareness about it.

The global warming deniers believe in virgin birth, that the earth is 6000 years old, Jesus ran with the dinosaurs and like Rush Limbaugh, think god controls the tides.

Peace,
Tex Shelters

10. This is not complicated
This argument on the right that heavy snow is an argument against global warming is ridiculous... the question is only whether these people don't think, or they are intentionally deceiving their audience.

If you happen to have a friend who has been snookered by this line of "reasoning," here's a concise, simple "refudiation" that most people should be able to understand easily...

Whether you believe in global warming or not, this should be obvious:

The amount of snow you get is NOT related to temperature. After all, it can be 15 degrees outside with no snow whatsoever, or it can be 25 degrees outside with a foot of snow, everyone knows this.

Amount of snowfall has nothing to do with how cold it is. It has everything to do with how much moisture is in the air when it *is* cold.

As it happens, global warming predicts that there will generally be more moisture in the air. Therefore, areas that are going to have snow anyway are likely to have more snow.

Also, remember, global warming is not predicting that what were 25 degree days in winter in the past will now typically be 35 degree days. The differences predicted are much, much, much smaller than that, and happening slowly. So, on average, from year to year, cities are going to have about as many below-32 degree (snow capable) days as they have had before. But if there is more moisture in the air, the amount of precipitation would be be greater. If it's over 32 degrees, it will be rain. If it is under, it will be snow.
