I'll say this for our president
I'm glad I don't have his job.

Can you say, "Lonely at the top"?

I knew you could.

Keep the faith Mr. President. Keep the principles that make people the best they can be. Measured and deliberate stands taken with wise council will see you through these rough times.

And don't forget to take out time to spend with the kids at night. They'll refresh your mind about why you do what you are doing. It's all about a better world for them and their kids.

2. What can I say. People react badly to my hate-mongering.
I'll have to improve my new tone.

Thanks for the rec.

You were the first post. Need to have a bit more patience than that.

10. I think it's time for that. Although I think I understand the political games that
need to be played, bottom line, human rights trump politics. Even Reagan put his foot down with Marcos.

14. If you do that, your decision making becomes a lot easier.
What's the worst that can happen, you don't get reelected? The case can easily be made that this philosophy helps you politically anyway.

15. Ideally it would be so great if that were the sole deciding factor in every decision.
He's said he'd rather do one good term than do a half assed job with his only concern being getting reelected (wildly paraphrasing and probably butchering) so this is one of those decisions that will contribute to a good term. He wouldn't leave office with regret and guilt that he didn't do more, regardless of how many terms he serves.

The presidency takes a lot more work and is a lot slower going than people give it credit for.

6. Well said. I admire him so much for his coolness in the face of adversity.
I would have been screaming "Uncle" long ago. Just imagine living with all the criticism...damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Dealing with a normal Republican party would be irritating enough, but to have this "new version"...the "No" Party, plus the Tea Baggers screaming in your face each day, it would be too much.

He takes it in stride. I find that truly amazing.

12. Sympathy only goes so far bu encouragement
especially encouragement to do the right thing for the right reasons can never be bad.

Perhaps we need to stop seeing everything in adversarial terms and just simply help each other.

9. Amen. I feel so bad for him -granted it "comes with the job" but it's been
one crisis after another since he's taken office, and on top of that having to put up with being hogtied because we're outnumbered in Congress.

I'm reminded of the famous JFK photo (which of course I can't find), black and white, I think, of him gazing pensively out the window of the oval office. You just get the feeling he's all alone in the world, as ultimately every President is. That's how I feel about Obama now - so much pressure, so much wrong, so much he wants to do but can't -- all alone in the world. :(

13. I'm just glad he seems to be thinking this through. Do we really believe that
the protesters are any more united than we at DU are?

I seriously doubt it. the only thing I think all parties can agree on is that Mubarek has to go; it's a crapshoot beyond that.

It's called SOLIDARITY and it's this weird thing that happens during life and death situations when something called "character" is developed.

If a person would just "do no harm" to the majority things would be soooo much better. This man is not fucking up, this is a thought-out betrayal of what Democrats are supposed to be.

Poor guy, his life must be so difficult. Gosh, what we need now is one of those picture threads with Obama looking all "thinky" and "deep". :eyes:

28. There's little reason to think this President is doing any different than those before him.
Giving lip service to "democracy" while propping up puppet dictators behind the scenes.

After a few decades of it the pattern is fairly obvious.
