Elton John discusses decision to play for Limbaugh in new issue of Rolling Stone
Edited on Wed Feb-02-11 04:09 PM by Adenoid_Hynkel
- John explains his controversial decision to play Rush Limbaugh's wedding. "I could not believe when I was asked to play," he says. "I thought it was a joke. I had dialogue with him before and he said, 'I'm not anti-gay, I want you to come, bring David.' My goal is for Rush to say, 'I support civil partnerships,' and if I rang him right now, I think he might agree. He was one of the first people to congratulate us on the baby."

1. Rush is not anti-gay.
For a while, he was calling gay people "poltroons", an obscure word meaning coward. So he's not anti-gay, he's anti-poltroon. :eyes:

2. Good luck with that, Elton...
He may say it to you, after he swears you to secrecy... and he'd never make such an admission on the air... his ardent followers would riot.

4. It has long been my personal policy
If someone can't say they support me in public, then it doesn't much matter what they tell me in private.

6. I think the most evil thing about Rush is that he probably doesn't believe
Edited on Wed Feb-02-11 04:15 PM by LibDemAlways
half the shit he spews on the air. He'd say anything for a big enough paycheck. No conscience/no integrity/no decency.

Elton doesn't need Rush's money, either. Telling the singer he's not anti-gay doesn't make him any less of an asshole.

19. Agreed... and because he's as stupid and mean as his audience
He gets off on people believing his lies.

7. Sounds similar to being invited for dinner by Jeffrey Dahmer.
Money isn't everything.

8. Neither is politically guided
Misanthropy. How, why and where an artist likes Elton John performs his work does not detract from it's merits.

11. Only if you have no scrupples.
So what it doesn't detract for it's merits. Give me a break. His music is good. What does that have to do with playing for Rush Limbaugh. Stand for nothing and fall for anything. Go ahead and dine with the undead.

9. Well if Elton wants to justify it that way,
I guess that's his prerogative. Rush is the very embodiment of everything ugly about American culture, whether it's racism or fascism or materialism. But I guess none of that means anything as long as Rush isn't overtly homophobic. I think Elton and Rush are more alike than not.

10. Sorry Elton, but Rush most certainly is anti-gay in his public persona
and you did it for the money. You have no integrity.

12. Sure, and if Elton wasn't a music star Rush wouldn't give a shit.
The fawning of one "star" over another is boring.

13. Elton John got punked so bad
One of the most obviously bigoted men in America tricked a gay man into singing at his wedding simply by saying hes not "anti-gay". I wonder if Elton realizes how incredibly pathetic he looks for falling for it?

14. I usually like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but...
Come on, it's Rush Limbaugh! He's like the epitome of all that is noxious in our society...

17. I've said this many, many years, but I don't think Rush Limbaugh,
Glenn Beck, Hanity, Coulter, or anyone in right wingnut land really believe what they spew. They are bascially making hundreads of millions on hate because hate sells! They don't believe the crap. It's propaganda because propaganda sells.

I don't think any one of them really believe the shit they say...

18. That's even worse, in my humble opinion.
So Limbaugh doesn't even believe some of his own hateful arguments, and only demonizes gays because the cash is good? How's that any better?

21. What is does, Sir Elton
is gives him creds.
Next time someone says he is anti-gay, he will point to you and say "No I'm not. Ask Elton John".

Kind of like that imaginary black friend that bigots always have...

What next Elton? A private show for the Saudi Royal Family?

What an asshole!
