Why bother voting? Or at least why do we waste all that
energy and money to get Democrats elected when they turn out to be Republicans..I am referring to the latest Republican move by McCaskill to force the issue of cutting Security Security..Reid says it is off the table. "Republican" McCaskill says not so fast.. She will push to add more Democrats in her fight..We need progressives to came forward before we lose all of our Democracy and get these so called Republicrats out.....the hell of it is ..If by some unlikely vote to cut SS should occure..I am not 100% certain that Obama would veto the bill..he talks a great fight, then he too could side with Republicans.

1. I'm thinkin' we will all need to be taking to the streets soon.
All across the county as well as D.C.

I hope we will be shouting: "Remember the Egyptian Revolution. If they can do we can do it."

3. Slight difference: the people in Egypt are protesting because they want the ability to pick their
leaders. Not whining because they can't win elections.

13. What, the Egyptians have set the guidelines for protesting? LOL
Big difference between protesting like the Egyptians and protesting for what they are protesting for.

14. I'm simply citing the reason they are protesting.

When people post about hoping for a "revolution" in this country to "overthrow" our government, when we actually have a democratic way of selecting our leaders, that is whining about not being able to convince enough Americans to agree with you to win an election.

Many people here who talk about "revolution" would be fine supporting someone like Kucinich. They just can't stand the fact that they are about 2-3% of the party, and even less of the US.

2. I'm done with voting for the lesser of two evils
anyone who wants my vote is going to have to give me a good reason to get out and vote. Otherwise I'll be sitting it out.

4. No you're not :)

People said the same thing when they voted for Nader. Then most ran to the polls in 2004 and voted for Kerry after being horrified at just how wrong they were. Nader's vote share dropped by a factor of 10. Reality hitting one in the face has a tendency to do that.

It's not a question of if. Just when. Bank on it.

I refuse to sit home. It's giving up and I'm not about that at all.

5. I don't expect any candidate to cater to one sole constituent...
Obama is a centrist. That has never been a secret. No candidate can make everyone happy. They can only attempt to do what their constituents voted them in for.

Of course, if we don't like what they do we can withdraw our support and not give them money. We can campaign against them or support their opponents in hopes of getting someone that will do a better job of taking care of their constituents.

It's a complicated job.

15. Obama is NOT a Centrist.
Edited on Fri Feb-04-11 02:55 PM by truedelphi
Richard Nixon was a Centrist. Yes, Vietnam was a dirty little war whose profits aided and abetted the fortunes of people like Johnson and Nixon. But we still had private property at that point in history.

A Centrist respects the notion of people who work hard for years for something, anything, should be entitled to it.

Obama is owned by the Wall Street and Monsanto crowd.

The middle class is being pushed into oblivion, and had Obama ANY RESPECT for us, you would have seen the type of price limits on Big Insurers that Nixon had on Insurers the summer of 1973. Insurance companies that summer rolled back prices per government dictum, as Nixon had believed their profit margins had gotten out of hand.

And under Nixon you would have never seen something like the "Food Safety Act."

The Food Safety Act, writtten by Monsanto, will put so much odious regulation and paper work requirements on top of all the other hevy dchallenges the smaller, decent farmer faces, so they too go out of business. The Act will not make food safer, as the American family will have to buy the food from China, where most irrigation is from
water polluted with heavy metals.

But the Food Safety Act will indeed drop the price of farm land and help Big Agro own even more millions upon millions of acres.

7. voting is a pointless gesture, no matter who wins.
What are the chances your vote made the difference in an election? Probably zero. so why bother voting?

Always thought that was a hilarious title.

11. Lots of others evidently feel the same way, which is why we have the GOP
controling the house and many states. Great idea, guys. I'm sure the democratic pols really "learned a lesson" last November...

12. We need real progressives to step forward
Like Sanders for example could challenge Obama..He could win.. I would certainly support him..from the get-go ..Then we could have progressives challenge all House members and if it would mean having a majority of Independents then we might really have a voice.

17. I think it needs to get a lot worse before a progressive can win
saying home or voting green may be the only alternatives

16. If Republicans mess things up as bad as last time they were in control
their future is dim, if Democrats continue to act like Republicans then their future is just as hopeless. The only alternative is to have a third party like the Green Party come along and give the masses what they want and need. I don't see the Dems moving back to the left so a left leaning party has to be created, that is the only choice. Sorry Dems but if you can't be a voice for me I can't be a vehicle for you.
