Critics question billions in aid routed back to US contractors
Source: Boston Globe

WASHINGTON — United States taxpayers have funneled more than $60 billion of aid into Egypt since President Hosni Mubarak came to power in 1981, but more than half of the money has been spent supplying weapons to the country’s military, an arrangement that critics say has benefited American military contractors more than ordinary Egyptians.

1. The rest has been used
to fund the Central Security Force , c. 350,000 staff , to keep the population under control and rig elections.

I'm sure the Egytian population will be eternally grateful to US taxpayers. :sarcasm:

4. Why those dirty tricksters!
Oh well, I guess that's one on us! Live and learn. Nobody should be held responsible. Gee, I wonder if any of those fine defense contractors made any political contributions to make sure the gravy train kept running? We'll probably never know for sure. One thing's for certain though: We can't stop doing things the way we've been doing them, because that might weaken our national defense! Besides, the instability that could be introduced into the free market if we start keeping an eye on things might cause some contractors to get the jitters, and that would be very bad for business. Then all the jobs would dry up, and nobody would have anything ever again! Is that what you libruls want? Everybody out of work? You goddam commies!

5. Heh - yeah.
I just heard some profoundous amazingous sort allow that the US wouldn't be right again until employment rates return to what they once were! Now, where to I get paid to make such profound predictions??? We can damned sure bet that there's NEVER gonna be any plastic trinket factories in the USA - ever again. The best we can hope for are service jobs where we cook for one another and change each other's Depends. Depends made in Mexico or China at that.
