Just heard on the TV. Commercial flights out of Love Field are cancelled BUT
they are going to allow private aircraft to land...because you know, it's the Super Bowl and there are going to be a lot of IMPORTANT people flying in. GRRRRRRRRRRRR....

This is really pissing me off.

We have shut power off to MAJOR HOSPITALS, POLICE STATIONS and other IMPORTANT entities...yet power remained on at Jerry World so that the football fans wouldn't miss out on "their NFL experience".

Fucking ridiculous.

The citizens of Egypt are fighting for their country, and the citizens here are taking backseats to football games.

2. Usually the rules for airlines are stricter
Private pilots can get away with a lot more than a commercial pilot.

8. I know there are tons of NFL fans among DUers...
but it has become among the most unseemly example of narcissism and "profit over all else" excesses in this country, that I can't think of it as mere entertainment any more.

I'm done.... I could not care less. Give me some good music and I'll clean the house and get paperwork done. Give me good weather and I'll take my doggy girl on a long happy walk. Or maybe I can think of something worthwhile to do on behalf of our Egyptian sisters and brethren. But, I will not be watching.

DFW Airport update
Friday, February 4, 2011
5:30 AM
Editors and News Desks:
DFW International Airport remains open and operational this morning despite the light snowfall
that is blanketing the Airport. DFW has its four main runways still open, treated and plowed,
and has plenty of runway capacity available for airline use.
DFW snow crews have been successfully maintaining the Airport’s runways, taxiways and
roadways.
Airlines at DFW are reporting approximately 120 departure cancellations so far this morning.
The first departure of the morning was airborne at 5:20AM.
Deicing stations are fully deployed and available for use, and the Airport will see deicing
operations this morning for departing flights.
Passengers are advised to contact their airlines or check their flight status online, especially for
flights in the morning hours today.
Roadways at DFW are in good shape and passable. The flyover bridges from International
Parkway to the airports five terminals are all open.
Regards,
DFW Public Affairs Department

10. Falling ice injures workers (one critical) at Cowboys Stadium
Edited on Fri Feb-04-11 03:53 PM by hlthe2b
Five workers have been hurt – one critically – from ice falling off the roof of Cowboys Stadium Friday afternoon, fire spokesman Lt. Pete Arevalo said.

Ice has been melting and falling off the northeast side of the stadium, billed as the tallest domed stadium in the world.

“When the ice falls, it can drop about 75 feet away from the stadium. You can’t tell where it is going to hit,” Arevalo said.

Four people have suffered minor injuries but another man suffered more serious injuries and was being transported to an area trauma center, Arevalo said.

The workers were there preparing the stadium for Sunday’s Super Bowl game.

I think our priorities are really f__ed up when $$$$ prevents even considering rescheduling an event such as this, no matter the safety concerns....

11. Totally agree
NOBODY should be asked to endanger their lives so a football game can be played.

It's a fucking Roman Colosseum. More bread and circuses for the masses!
