One of the “Pro-Mubarak Demonstrators” tells the story of how he joined the protests after he was captured by the Tahrir revolutionaries.

His name is Ahmed Fayez. He said two individuals went to his neighborhood on 1 Feb 2011 and introduced themselves as National Democratic Party working with Dr. Fathy Serour, the parliament speaker, and started distributing money on the people to join the demonstration and chant for Mubarak. They also asked Fayez and others to be in Tahrir Square. Fayez mentioned that people who went with him had weapons and molotov to be used against the the anti-Mubarak protesters in Tahrir Square.

You come near Tahrir Square again and things won't be so good'
Guardian reporters have hair-raising encounters with the Egyptian security forces and an angry mob

Peter Beaumont in Cairo
The Guardian, Fri 4 Feb 2011 16.51 GMT

The soldier appeared helpful at first, offering to walk us through to Cairo's Tahrir Square as we attempted to cover the latest protests on what had been dubbed Mubarak's "day of departure". But it was not the square that we were being led to but the ministry of the interior.

The next soldier, outside the ministry's main door was not so friendly. He ordered us to kneel facing a wall with our hands behind our heads, an order that was quickly countermanded by another soldier.

The soldiers were disciplined but firm, demanding to know who we were, querying a passport stamp for the Rafah border crossing into Gaza; others for Tunisia and Afghanistan. Soon there were more of us sitting with our backs against a wall: a freelance journalist from New Zealand, another Briton, a Dane and an Italian, and three students.

Next came two officers in plain clothes, less friendly than the enlisted troops.

31. Dear DU, I love you but goodnight. This has been a fierce battle and some of us need rest
Edited on Fri Feb-04-11 04:14 PM by Catherina
I don't even remember the last time I slept because the last time was only for a few hours with computer and TV turned on loud to not miss anything important.

I haven't had a wart since I was 10 years old. After 2 days, warts started appearing on my beautiful hands from stress. They're now on my arms and my feet but you know what, it DOESN'T MATTER. I'll do it again, along with MILLIONS of other people all over the world who are sick of injustice.

For over a week, spontaneous supporters all over the world leapt to action at a moral call and refused to let go. And we're still going to watch, refusing to let go during phase three, the phase of dirty backroom lies.

All of this was done out of solidarity love and hatred of injustice. No government will ever be able to pay enough thugs enough money to stop the growing determination to put a stop to injustice.

2 videos in signature link, think about your answer to the first one so you'll know who you are.

Exhausted. Long Live Tahrir. Goodnight. I love you DU. Especially Will Pitt who was willing to call the White House at 2am in the morning at the first evidence that something was wrong. I especially love everyone who spontaneously halted their lives to support this populist uprising. I'd name names but I'm so tired, I know I'll forget important other spontaneous contributors so I won't. Everyone knows who you are.

We WON! Go home."

Say what?

It's all over bit international sabotage now. We're not going to rest just yet.

:hugs:

Cat

PS. To those who still haven't resolved which side they're on, a sincere sincere thank you for not stabbing us in the back. To the third category, whatthefuckever, ignore, hide thread, we shall overcome and make that last vietnam speech, not the lies.

60. Reporters tell about being arrested, locked up by secret police.

Published: February 4, 2011

CAIRO — We had been detained by Egyptian authorities, handed over to the country’s dreaded Mukhabarat, the secret police, and interrogated. They left us all night in a cold room, on hard orange plastic stools, under fluorescent lights.
For one day, we were trapped in the brutal maze where Egyptians are lost for months or even years. Our detainment threw into haunting relief the abuses of security services, the police, the secret police and the intelligence service, and explained why they were at the forefront of complaints made by the protesters.

Many journalists shared this experience, and many were kept in worse conditions — some suffering from injuries as well.

According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, over the period we were held there were 30 detentions of journalists, 26 assaults and 8 instances of equipment being seized. We saw a journalist with his head bandaged and others brought in with jackets thrown over their heads as they were led by armed men.
