Sen. Rand Paul out of his shell, raising eyebrows

Paul—the son of the libertarian GOP Texas Rep. Ron Paul, known widely as Dr. No for his principled opposition to most government spending proposals—clearly shares his dad's independent streak, and his small-government ideology.

Paul was quick to criticize his own party's proposed budget during an interview this week with ABC News. "There's a disconnect between Republicans who want a balanced budget but aren't maybe yet brave enough to talk about the cuts to come," Paul said. Other remarks from that Thursday interview are still reverberating today.
