Ronald Regan's son Michael says that Sanda D O'Connor's appt to SOCTUS was the result
of a "deal" between Ronald Regan and his daughter, Maureen. She was a somen's rights, pro-choice Republican (who was the first one to convince her dad to become a Repub and prophetized that he would run for Pres years before he did), and she wanted to wear a pre-ERA button to the convention. Of course Reagan and the campaign went nuts about it, and Reagan made a deal with her that if she wouldn't wear the button to the convention, he'd name a woman as his first Supreme Court nominee. :wow:

Micheal claims that no one has ever talked about that before, and that it would come as a surprise to Sanda Day O'Conner if (when!) she finds out about it.

I'm watching him on CSpan2's "After Words" - he has many other interesting things to say, too.

He's also talking about a lot of the far-out right organizations and web sites (like the birther sites, and such) as just being cash cows for the organizers - these things are not serious efforts and will never happen, they're just bilking Repubs out of money.

1. From what I've read....
Ol' Mikey was estranged from the Gipper during those years, and when he did show up, acted like an asshole.

5. Michael is the dim-witted son of Raygun.
Ron Reagan is clearly the more intelligent of the two brothers.

6. "Oh Maureen. If you just ditch that button, I'll put myself in the history books forever."
And it was all because of that button, eh?
