Palin trails Obama in red Tennessee
By MAGGIE HABERMAN | 2/7/11 11:13 AM EST Updated: 2/7/11 11:19 AM EST

Sarah Palin's big problems among the GOP faithful are on clear display in a new poll that shows large numbers of Republicans aren’t sure about her and the tea party darling trails President Barack Obama in a head-to-head matchup in Tennessee — even with the president's job approval numbers running low in the state.

The poll in the solidly red state where she and McCain crushed Obama by 15 points two years ago is a warning bell that Palin, despite her following and appeal to conservatives, remains fairly radioactive to some Republican voters, who are far from convinced she can win in 2012.

In a hypothetical match up, 42 percent said they'd back Obama, while 37 percent picked Palin. Another roughly 20 percent picked none of the above, and other potential Republican candidates weren't measured.

Palin scored most of her support from self-described tea party members, with 64 percent saying they'd back her. But among Republicans, just 63 percent said they'd vote for her.

5. She is toast
At least as far as running for president. I am still not sure she even planned on running, she was keeping her brain dead base in suspense in order to sell more books, didn't work, and to get more talking gigs, which also seems to be not working all that well! For her it's all about the dollars, nothing else. She is going to milk her rise to fame for as much as she can get before she fades away!

Even her base is starting to see she is never going to be in the running for president. To many of the other republicans running who have a lot more experience, are courting the tea party crowds, and doing much better at it than she is. Her days are numbered, and the more she speaks out the more she looks like the idiot she really is, and that won't help her.

I think she knows this, and in the end will not run, but will try and get one of the other candidates in the primary to offer her something to support them so they can get her small following to vote for them. I actually think most of them won't want anything to do with her by primary time, but I could be wrong.

8. What are they saying?
She gets 64% of the Tea Bagger vote, and 63% of the "Real" Republican vote. Sounds like Mrs. Palin enjoys solid support amongst all stripes of the Big Circus Tent. As usual, it comes down to the "independents," who as of the last election seemed to be composed of disgusted Republicans. Maybe that's changed since the 2010 mid-term election, but that has yet to be seen.

9. Palin trails Obama? Snooki and Paris Hilton do too. Only difference is they're younger and not
full of hate. They wouldn't be mentioned in the same vein as the President. Why is Palin? Ugh.
