Update On Rep. Giffords: 'She's Enjoying Three Meals A Day'

While much attention has been focused on other news in recent days, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) continues to recover from the severe injuries she received in the Jan. 8 shooting rampage at an event she was holding in Tucson.

— Astronaut Mark Kelly, Giffords' husband, reported on the congresswoman's Facebook page yesterday that "the doctors say she is recovering at lightning speed considering her injury but they aren't kidding when they say this is a marathon process. There are encouraging signs everyday though. Gabby's appetite is back and — even though it's hospital food — she's enjoying three meals a day."

— Politico writes this morning that "on Monday, when Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' breakfast was delivered to her Houston hospital room, she asked for something else: toast. It might not seem like much, but one month after a failed assassin fired a bullet into her brain, such seemingly small milestones in her long recovery have helped sustain Giffords inner circle — family, friends and aides — as they cope with last month's Tucson massacre by sharing in her progress and continuing to serve her constituents. ... Speaking is the latest sign of progress."

Six people were killed and another 13, including Giffords, were shot in the attack. Jared Loughner, a 22-year-old Tucson man, has been charged.

and yes, she is recovering fast, So now I know problems swallowing are not an issue.

6. My rec cancels it. I understand how her seemingly small achievements

are milestones.

About five years ago Mz O had an accident, suffered head trauma and many broken bones. A couple days in ICU, then neurological wing of hospital, then rehab hospital, then home for remaining rehab.

I watched as she relearned nearly everything. Each new accomplishment was exactly that - an accomplishment.

I am immensely happy for the Giffords' family.
