Auburn has run up $170,000 legal bill in Cam Newton case
Auburn may have won the national championship after Cam Newton was allowed to play in the title game. But that doesn't mean there wasn't a price to pay for the NCAA investigation into his eligibility.
Cam Newton played in the BCS title game against Oregon after a NCAA probe into his eligibility.
According to the Birmingham News, the school has run up a $170,000 bill for its legal fees in the case.
Auburn senior associate athletics director Scott Carr told the newspaper the school started incurring fees in October after retaining Lightfoot, Franklin, White LLC, the university's Birmingham-based legal counsel.
This isn't the first high-profile case for the law firm, which was retained in recent infraction cases involving the Michigan and Southern California.
