Four Lauderdale police officers disciplined after peanut butter incident
FORT LAUDERDALE — A jar of peanut butter, a dog and a secret recording have resulted in the Police Department firing an investigator and suspending three other employees without pay.

Police Chief Frank Adderley has ordered Crime Scene Investigator Stacy Jenkins fired after a 20-day suspension without pay. Sgt. Kimberly Hancock got a 10-day suspension without pay; Detective Kerri Hagerty and Public Safety Aide Julia Horn, three days.

....
Jenkins hid a digital recorder in the city's Crime Scene Investigation office to record conversations of day-shift workers. She told the other three on Jan. 30, 2010.

While the four chatted, they let Jenkins' pet dog eat from a peanut butter jar that belonged to another detective. Other officers testified that they ate from the jar for a week without knowing. Jenkins also told her colleagues that she previously let her dog urinate on a detective's desk.

1. Knowing that all four were females, I bet there's an interesting background on
their motives. The article was cut-&-dried with no details, including the gender of the person offended.

Could have been payback for having been bullied or female vs. female petty issues. Just saying I'd like to know the story behind this.

3. I can understand the motivation for revenge
in general. But the whole 'messing with other peoples food' thing has always bothered me deeply. That seems like something we need a stronger taboo against.

I'd much prefer someone just come up and punch me in the face than 'alter' my food secretly.
