What DEMOCRAT is going to run in the special election for the NY-26 seat? |
|
We need names. And I don't want to hear a damn thing about Republicans or doom and gloom lamentations about Democrats prospects for this seat. This is the first chance for voters to repudiate the do-nothing, corrupt Boehner House of Representatives.
Don't pee in my Wheaties.

Great idea. If it's true the R's are going to run Paladino, we could get a seat here.

I'm still upset that he lost but my dad's now going around saying "I told you so" to Nan Hayworth's voters.

2. I'm wondering if there will be a special election, or if the NY-26 |
|
will be absorbed in the upcoming redistricting. It's a very weird district, running from suburbs north of Buffalo, east through farm country to suburbs on the west side of Rochester. Not the worst example of gerrymandering, but somewhere in the running.
Sorry to pee in your Wheaties, but there is an active Tea Party group in the Rochester area. The NY 25 runs from the east side of Rochester to the south side of Syracuse. The Democratic congressman, Dan Maffei, lost a real squeaker last fall to Republican Ann Buerkle. She won because the Tea Party group really got out the vote in the Rochester area. No one in Syracuse knew anything about it until the votes were counted.

I am a a constituent of this district, and it was amazing to see how well-placed the 'tea party' on the ground was for Chris Lee. Local conservative radio carried alot of water for the tea party and their backed candidates; while the Democrats had an almost non-existent media presence outside of paid campaign advertising.
From what I understand, there is no name being floated around by Democratic Committee Chairman Morelle, but in conservative circles County Executive Maggie Brooks (ugh!) name is being passed around...
My concern is that with the special election for Mayor and Bill Johnson's' fail at warming up the electorate for a second run after a previous mayoral fail; that he may take a stab at it, in which case: help us all!

7. YOu're 100% on the mark. They will probably just carve it up as NY is losing a district anyways |
|
Maffei was a tear jerker. My hubby worked in his D.C. office.

8. Even if the district were eliminated due to redistricting, there would still be a vacancy until 2013 |

18. It's likely Nov. there will be a special election...I really don't think a Dem has a chance |
|
NY has to lose a district so whoever gets it probably won't be there for long.

11. I don't know who is in that district |
|
however, I suggest you guys get someone who has established name recognition and such as a leading well known board member or some prior mayor if one is available. Don't be so concerned with getting the perfect candidate as far voting record so long as they will be reliable on the key issues. Special elections are odd like that, you don't have the luxury of holding out for the perfect candidate. Sending a statement is more important than putting up the perfect candidate then loosing because it took too long to get going.

I think this is within our reach with the right candidate and the right field program. The honeymoon is over for the GOP congress as they've done nothing about creating jobs, and the last two Republicans to hold the seat were involved in sex scandals.
This could be another NY-23.

of their friends and neighbors are similar. I don't necessarily want a Dem there because that district is likely to get carved up. I want to take back the 25th district (where Maffei lost to tea party loon Buerkle).
