Just to review what know about the situation in Egypt...
1. President Mubarak will step down...

2. President Mubarak won't step down...

3. President Mubarak will step "aside"...

4. VP Suleiman will take over...

5. The Speaker of the Parliament will take over...

6. The Military will take over...


Have I left anything out?

7. The conflicting statements show how fluid the situation truly is. There is
obviously a lot of jockeying for power behind the scenes. Saudis probably are exerting tremendous pressure on their contacts in the govt and army to resist public pressure at all costs.

8. Yes: the military will work this for all it's worth.
They already have been. Stayed largely on the sidelines until they started getting perks from Mubarak, then started detaining and torturing protesters.
