I hope Mubarak doesn't pull a Mishima |
|
I know this is a morose, morbid thought, but I don't like how tonight is building up. One source close to him says he "will not resign as President" but will "meet the demands of the protesters."
It worries me. I am not a fan of authoritarian regimes, but Mubarak is an old man who probably doesn't understand why his regime is considered oppressive. He is old, clueless and needs to go, but I don't want to see the guy kill himself.
Hope I am way, way off base. I just have a bad feeling.

2. Different cultural and religious beliefs. |

Muslims have the same disdain for suicide that Christians and Jews do.

3. Mishima's whole life was a build up to his suicide. |

Mubarak's whole life is about amassing wealth and running the show.

5. No cultural dynamic to support that. |

Sepukku (sp?) has a long and honored tradition in Japan. Suicide (recent bombing developments notwithstanding) isn't looked well upon in Islam.
