XP support will last longer than most versions of Vista
Edited on Thu Feb-10-11 03:54 PM by quinnox
I was looking at the extended support of Microsoft, and amazingly enough, XP support won't stop until 2014. While Vista official support will end next year in 2012 for most versions and Microsoft won't give extended support.

The only Vista versions that are safe, Vista business and Vista Enterprise. They will get support till 2017.

So if you don't want Windows 7 and are getting a new operating system, go with Vista Business.

1. Why anyone would choose Vista over WIN7 is beyond me.
Edited on Thu Feb-10-11 04:27 PM by jayfish
Hell, I'd take a fully patched XPP install over Vista any day of the week. Vista=ME

ON EDIT: I'd take XPP over Win7 Starter(comes with many Netbooks) too. One of the biggest rip-offs I've seen in the PC biz in a while.

2. That's because XP is the best OS
Edited on Thu Feb-10-11 04:13 PM by catabryna
Microsoft ever designed. Trust me, were I to have the option to "downgrade", I would!

Edited to add: I really dislike Vista.

Enjoy it while you can Unless you're a gamer, you really have no need for the newer Microsoft OS offerings.

Edited to add: I'm using 7

4. Who would say, "I dislike Windows 7, so I'm choosing it's buggier forebear instead"?
I don't know many people who are still on Vista at this point. Most of the former Vista users I know jumped ship to Win7 quite a while back.

5. There are still some refurbs in the channel that are pre-loaded with Vista.
A co-worker brought a fresh one in for me to set up and I just shook my head.

8. Excellent. My old Compaq came with XP and I've been happy
with it. Nice to know I can get several more years out of it, with luck.

13. Good. About time they trashed Vista and the other trash they have been selling.
Then they could improve a system that really does work -- XP.

14. I have no problems with XP.
Whenever I upgrade I'll go to Windows 7, but I'm not in any hurry to do that. Probably the next computer.

16. Dell and HP offer XP downgrades on their business sides as a matter of fact
Edited on Thu Feb-10-11 04:40 PM by DainBramaged
and Vista 7 pro discs come with the systems, which I know as a fact since I have the upgrade discs in my office. I raed a report last year that over 60% of the top 1000 businesses still use XP Pro exclusively.

18. Which is why they have extended support out as far as they have.
Business is slow to move to new OS infrastructure. ...for good reason.

17. I've got Vista on my laptop and I like it fine
it was horrible until I upgraded the memory, and since then it's been okay. I still think XP was far better, though. I guess I'll be giving 7 a try sometimes soon ...

19. I think XP was best too but
Microsoft won't support it anymore in terms of gaming, if you like to play games you have to move to either Vista or Win 7. Win 7 is radically different in terms of UI compared to XP and Vista.

Not everyone loves Win 7, that is a good ad campaign though Microsoft has run. There are many people who hate Win 7 in fact.
