What is going on in Haiti? |
|
I see clips of Haiti and things do not seem much different than after the earthquake. It was my impression that a lot of people donated money for the disaster. Did that money get to the people? Right after the disaster I saw Presidents Clinton and Bush taking interest in the situation--has their interest waned? Did they just stay until the cameras left?

In the most real sense. A lot of the money given did go to rehab projects, but the projects I've read about have been badly designed or poorly planned. For example, one group got several million dollars to clear canals to alleviate flooding but they cleared canals inland without clearing the flow into the sea, i.e. they just moves the flooding several km downstream.
Sorry, no citations, but my diss. is on similar material in S. Asia so I have lots of these anecdotes floating about in my head.
