IRAN: The cell phones died, the internet was cut,
Edited on Mon Feb-14-11 05:14 PM by denem
a thousand were murdered, many more thousands arrested.

And it's happening again.

I know DU'ers are fed up with Rick Roll video recommendations, but this one is pretty important. Blurred Vision, a group of Iranian expats living in Canada released a protest song/video a year ago. They chose "Another Brick in the Wall", famous in the struggle against apartheid.

In South Africa, Pretoria banned the song and the Wall Album. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei went one better. All music was outlawed in August 2010.

The Story is here:
Hope in Iran stoked by song: Toronto band

The YouTube video on the page aptly portrays the fear, anger and contempt young Iranians have for their regime. It's not for the faint hearted, but has some lighter moments.

One year later, I pray for their safety as they head back onto the streets.

Hey Ayatollah, leave those kids alone

cutting off the internet and phone service will only piss off more people including people who where not really pissed off before.

2. It's so painful to hear their plight.
I am "haunted" by the tweets from the Iranian girl/woman that were posted here during the last protest. I pray for them but there must be more we can do.

4. The last scene is a woman taking off her hijab and walking to her death.

I hadn't realized Blurred Vision were Iranian until I heard them pronounce Ayatollah.
