Court upholds verdict against probation officials
A Missouri appeals court on Tuesday upheld an area man’s $74,000 civil judgment against Missouri probation officials over disclosure of his alleged drug use to an employer.

A Clay County jury had awarded the money to Bryan K. Richardson, who was fired from his truck driving job after Missouri probation officer Traycie Sherwood told his employer that he had admitted using drugs, according to Tuesday’s ruling by the Missouri Court of Appeals.

Richardson denied that he had made that admission and also argued that Sherwood’s action violated Missouri law against divulging confidential information.

The court of appeals rejected Sherwood’s claims that her official position rendered her immune from legal action.
