A genuine salute to the Madison police is in order:
Madison Police spokesman Joel DeSpain told madison.com on Thursday morning that police protocol will likely stay the same as it's been the past two days downtown.

"We need to make sure the protesters will be able to move safely," DeSpain said. Madison Police Chief Noble Wray said "Our job is to create an environment for democracy to take place." Through two days of protests, the throngs have been peaceful. "We want to thank the protesters for their decorum and would urge everyone to continue to remain peaceful," DeSpain said.

Capitol Police are allowing protest signs inside the Capitol, but the signs can't have sticks attached.

6. Thing about the Guard--
Some of them are union. Some of them are Democrats. Most of them are decent people.

10. Yes, but what would they do if ordered by him to stop the protests?
Could they refuse?

11. Okay, I got an answer to the question about what the Guard would do.
Robin Eckstein, a former Wisconsin National Guard member, told the Huffington Post, <4> “Maybe the new governor doesn’t understand yet—but the National Guard is not his own personal intimidation force to be mobilized to quash political dissent. The Guard is to be used in case of true emergencies and disasters, to help the people of Wisconsin, not to bully political opponents.”

Good! The little despot is alienating everyone.

9. Yes, that's right. Scott Mubarak thought he could buy off the cops
and firemen by exempting their unions from his draconian law. It didn't work. Both cops & firemen joined the demonstration.

Come to think of it, back in the 60's in Madison, the firemen stood with the protestors. I had forgotten about that until I started writing this post.
