BREAKING: Gadaffi's regime might fall!

Norwegian Newspaper Aftenposten says reports are coming on from Al Jazeera and others that the regime in Libya might be going down.

Due to few foreign reporters it's difficult to confirm at this time however:

Security forces are reported to have fled the cities of Derna and Benghazi. In Benghazi the protestors have taken control over a radio station and are broadcasting themselves.

Ghadaffi's sons are reported to have fled the country

Multiple people have been killed in clashes over the last few days, and tonight two policemen have supposedly been hanged by a mob in Al-Bayda.

I don't have the energy and undivided attention span right now to do a Libya thread but I really hope someone else does. I hope it falls very soon so activists can concentrate efforts on fewer places.

Here are a few important ones I just found. I skipped unsubstantiated rumors initially put out by pro-government twitterers like about the water supply being poisoned.

Britain and other Western countries have urged restraint in the protests sweeping across the Middle East. But at the same time, the UK has been selling arms and crowd-control measures to the administrations in Bahrain, Libya, Jordan and other countries.

55. I hope you're right Nadin. I don't feel very good about Libya

Ghaddafi is insane and he's gone further than Mubarak dared because there's no media on the ground. His thugs are all over Twitter (while the activists are mostly on Facebook) so many good people are reluctant to retweet things and Libyans are feeling abandoned.

He's got machine guns being fired from in-flight helicopters and there are reports of artillery (heard by a reporter who managed to get through to Libya on the phone).

Man: The army came out, ok, it was with tanks and they're telling us, seven people, protesters, that they're with them, and they're here to protect them and everything else. But we hear other things; in some other places of the city, the army's shooting people, and also I heard that they're taking over the airport and there's some airplanes arriving with more army corps from outside, from the other cities.

I cannot confirm the airport thing, I cannot confirm it, I just heard it from you know people talking on the street now. But the army is now with protesters, they're standing with them, talking with them. But they're not saying why or who sent them or who controls them, they're not giving any information. Now I can say in some areas are quiet, in other areas there's an army base down in the middle of the city, there's a lot of gunfire two minutes ago. And people still trying to protest in front of it and the army has been shooting them.

One Libyan route originated by Telecom Italia directly is still BGP-reachable, but inbound traceroutes appear to die in Palermo. A minority of our peers report some surviving paths through the peering connection between Level3 and Telecom Italia, but traceroutes into those prefixes fail, suggesting that the Libyan cutoff is complete.

We wondered whether anyone would repeat Egypt's strategy. Tonight, it appears that we have our answer.

A leadership congress controlled by Muammar Gaddafi has pledged a change in government administrators, trying to ease demonstrations demanding the longtime leader's ouster.

Newspaper Quryna, which has ties to Seif al-Islam Gaddafi, one of Colonel Gaddafi's sons, said on Friday that the country's national congress has halted its session indefinitely and said many state executives will be replaced when it returns.

In addition to replacing top officials, it will endorse reforms to decentralise and restructure the government, it said. The site also said 1000 inmates at a prison in Benghazi attacked guards and escaped.

Dubai: Anti-government protesters seized control of the eastern Libyan city of Al Bayda after they were joined by some policemen, two separate Libyan exile groups said yesterday.

"Al Bayda is in the hands of the people," Giumma Al Omami of the Libyan Human Rights Solidarity group told Reuters.

The reports, which the two groups said were based on their own telephone contacts with the city of some 250,000 people, could not be independently verified.

It was learnt that one of Gaddafi's sons, Sa'adi, was in the city to help control protests but later fled the main government building along with his supporters before protesters gained control of government establishments.
