It’s official: Rick Scott is the all-time big spender in Florida electionsWith final 2010 election numbers released Tuesday, Gov. Rick Scott officially obliterated the state record for campaign spending, pouring $85 million — including more than $73 million of his own family’s money — into getting elected.
Scott’s total, which includes spending by his official Rick Scott for Governor campaign plus his independent political committee called Let’s Get To Work, more than tripled the previous high-water mark set in Florida by Charlie Crist in 2006. Crist, then a Republican, like Scott, spent $24.6 million to win election as governor.
Final campaign reports showed that Scott’s campaign committee spent $67.6 million, including $60.39 million loaned to the committee by Scott himself. Let’s Get To Work, fueled largely by $12.8 million from the F. Annette Scott Revocable Trust held by Scott’s wife, spent another $17.4 million.
