On the pattern... we are all becoming familiar with |
|
so we had Qadaffi's son speak of the coming civil war, and foreigners, and foreign elements creating all this chaos...
Sulemian did the same in Egypt
We heard the same this week in Bahrain...
How long until Walker blames outsiders? Oh wait, they did this morning in the morning shows. Gillespie said that he did not aprove of Obama speaking about this and inserting himself in WI politics. No, Walker is not Qadaffi (I suspect the police told him where to stuff it too) but the pattern is so damn predicable. So we will see where we are going in the next few...
We stand with you WI, but we are in a pattern now.

3. In this case I expect him to relent |
|
hoping to avoid the recall... but resignation would be nice.

4. Recall? You actually understand that constitutionally there can be no recall for a year? |
|
So there will be no recall anytime soon and Walker is certainly not going to resign. If you're going for a fantasy aim for something a lot higher than Walker resigning as governor.

6. Can he be "fired" - like all the rest of us? Or does he get that |
|
protection for a year -- like all the rest of us don't?

7. No, he cannot be "fired" for a year. That's the reality of it. |
|
He is safe for a year and a year is a long time. No recall until he has served for one year and then there are 60 days to collect the 550,000 or so signature needed for a recall election. It sure would have been easier if the Democratic part of those 800,000 more who voted in 2008 would have shown up to vote in 2010. Choosing not to vote has consequence as well as we see now.
Sure, Republicans senators may be recalled, but recall does not mean removal from office any more than does impeachment (oh, and Walker would not be impeached by a Republican controlled assembly either).
There is not going to be any quick or easy solutions for any of this. Probably the biggest victory is that now we have Democrats who are motivated and fired up.

9. Again, the elected officials get the perks, and we get whatever they |
|
decide to give us. Yet another injustice and division between the haves and have-nots. :grr:
Thanks for the explanation, though! :hi:

That it would be another year for Walker is likely what causes him to have no real fear of the immediacy of a recall. On the other hand there is another year for him to antagonize, infuriate, and alienate other Wisconsinites. Likely this will make it easier to get the number of signatures needed.

11. I'm beginning to think that it's time we changed "real life" - especially when |
|
it comes to our politics. I think that people - good people -- go to DC full of ideals and good intentions then learn what a boondoggle it is and what games have to be played in order to accomplish anything. "That's how it works." And so it's perpetuated. We have to stop it. We really do.
Constitution or no, there's no reason why an elected official should be allowed to stay in office who gives away the State's surplus in tax breaks for the wealthy, then tries to replenish the coffers by taking away workers' rights. Don't you agree? There should be some way to oust the mofo.
As for Walker and the current situation we're stuck with, I think more and more people are banding against him. I love that the Troopers who previously supported him essentially said "whoa, THIS isn't what we voted for -- we're joining the others!"
And with the Dems leaving the State -- ballsy move -- maybe this will be the incentive to bring about REAL change.
I hope. :7
