The Police Are Turning On Walker
by zenbassoon
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/02/20/947619/-The-Police-Are-Turning-On-Walker

During the election, there were only three unions that endorsed Walker for Governor of Wisconsin: The Firefighters, Police, and State Troopers. We've seen spectacular video of the Firefighters marching into the capitol with their bagpipes. The Firefighters have taken their stand.

Well, now, so have the Police.

And it's NOT with Walker.

http://www.channel3000.com/news/26933675/detail.html
Tracy Fuller, Executive Board President

Feb. 16, 2011

I am going to make an effort to speak for myself, and every member of the Wisconsin State Patrol when I say this.

I VALUE THE CAPITOL POLICE, AND THE U. W. POLICE. I VALUE ALL OF THE POLICE COMMUNICATIONS OFFICERS OF ALL OF THE AGENCIES IN OUR UNION, AND THE STATE TROOPERS, AND THE INSPECTORS OF THE STATE PATROL. I VALUE “ALL” OF THE SUPPORT STAFF OF ALL OF THE AGENCIES AROUND THE STATE. I DON’T KNOW HOW ANY OF US COULD FUNCTION WITHOUT ANY OF US AROUND THE STATE WE ALL NEED EACH OTHER.

I VALUE THE BUREAU OF FIELD SERVICES, FIELD AGENTS OF LOCAL THREE, NO LESS THAN ANY OF THE OTHER MEMBERS IN THE UNION. I AM HERE FOR EVERY MEMBER OF THIS UNION AND ALWAYS THOUGHT I HAD BEEN UNTIL THIS WEEK.

I SPECIFICALLY REGRET THE ENDORSEMENT OF THE WISCONSIN TROOPER’S ASSOCIATION FOR GOVERNOR SCOTT WALKER. I REGRET THE GOVERNOR’S DECISION TO “ENDORSE” THE TROOPERS AND INSPECTORS OF THE WISCONSIN STATE PATROL. I REGRET BEING THE RECIPIENT OF ANY OF THE PERCIEVED BENEFITS PROVIDED BY THE GOVERNOR’S ANNOINTING.

I THINK EVERYONE’S JOB AND CAREER IS JUST AS SIGNIFICANT AS THE OTHERS. EVERYONES FAMILY IS JUST AS VALUABLE AS MINE OR ANY OTHER PERSONS, ESPECIALLY MINE. EVERYONES NEEDS ARE JUST AS VALUABLE. WE ARE ALL GREAT PEOPLE!!

28. I'm on your side here
But I fail to see how this means anything and how he has no power? A union president distancing themselves from a Gov trying to remove union rights is to be expected. As for no power, he's got the highest hand right now.

51. I think I may have let my exuberance get the better of me, but
I suppose I was thinking of Stalin's response to the question of whether the Pope should be invited to Yalta:

"How many divisions does the Pope command?"

To wit, if he gives a command (to police or National Guard) that is anti-worker, will Walker's commands still be obeyed?

He followed Dubya's plan and got a Lt. Gov. stupider and crazier than he is. We need him politically slapped around and his ability to accomplish anything like this broken for good.

If he resigns, we won't be better off.

64. Look at the comments on Krugman's article in NYT
The comments are running heavily against the union. Americans are ignorant because they don't look outside the msm to get news and msm is corporate controlled, pure and simple. I listened the CNN quite a bit this weekend and didn't hear anything about the tax decreases in the WI budget and huge pay increases for Walker's cronies, it's all about the selfish workers. The commentors on Krugman's column also take this tact, just piling on the public workers and not looking at the big picture.

I also think a lot of Americans are just plain stupid. I hire a lot of people and they have to take the Wonderlicht test first. It's just amazing how the scores have declined over the last 15 years. Every year it seems to get worse. With our criminal governor in FL, I expect it to get even worse.

30. He's not relenting at all.
In fact he's saying there will be no negotiating. He's also said that the 70K are a tiny fraction of the 1M+ people that voted for him. Also just commented that they are looking into legal action to bring the Senators back. Their other tactic is to introduce a lot of other right wing legislation that can be passed without the Democrats there. Only fiscal related bills require 3/5s of Senators present. This will force the Democrats to return.

It won't make any difference. But in our constitution, they cannot pass any legislation that effects the finances of the state without 2/3rds.

An effing brilliant move by Wisconsin's founding fathers.

32. The question then becomes..
Whose side are the people of Wisconsin on. Would be a shame to enact a recall vote only to see it defeated. That would really give the Republicans and Walker the will to cram their far right agenda through, as if they didn't seem to have enough will as it is.

65. Nah, they don't care about legitimacy
They only care about their goals - destroy the democratic funding bases and give all the money to the rich who can funnel money back to them so they retain power and cut taxes even more. They are evil and short sighted. Who's going to work for them and do a good job when education is meaningless for those who aren't rich because teachers are punished for their professiona and not paid a living wage. Are their rich friends kids going to shoulder the load - don't think so - they will get all the tax free money and sit on their asses?

Repugs are destroying the American way of life!

55. I think it's more like they were turning a blind eye
If anyone was paying any attention to what Walker had done to Milwaukee County, they would have known that, given a Republican Legislature (which he got) he would wreak havoc, unions be damned.

The unions that endorsed him tend to be conservative as their membership tends to be more conservative. Just like the idiotic newspaper endorsements he got, these conservative unions would have looked for any excuse to endorse him. He'd practically have to have gotten caught screwing someones pooch to not get their endorsement.

that they regret their endorsement of Walker. Maybe they'd like to explain what the fuck they were thinking in the first place?? How anyone who belongs to a union or anyone who is a public employee can vote for a Republican, or encourage anyone else to do so, is simply incomprehensible. The Republican agenda when it comes to unions is NOT a secret, folks. This is not something that Walker just pulled out of his ass last week. This has been happening for DECADES. Your actions and your choices have real life consequences, and now you and a lot of other people are having to learn that the really hard way.

75. It's definitely not a simple explanation.

The thing is, thanks to 40 years of right-wing talking points, Fux News, and Rush Limbaugh, people will vote the party line no matter how dangerous the candidate is. This is the tea party mentality that we're dealing with. It's not just democrats vs. republicans. We're dealing with people who don't think. Who don't think for themselves, for that matter. They do what they're told and don't ask questions.

Quite frankly, I don't get why people are voting against their own interests. Hell, my mom is an educator (and you'd think this would be a huge left-wing profession, but guess again :eyes: ), and she has several right-wing coworkers who regurgitate the bile and garbage that's peddled on Fux News. The thing is, these people are the ones that benefit directly from everything Fox is against, yet, they believe what the the teevee says. The only way to stop this insanity is to turn off the source.
