Why Scott Walker won't negotiate or compromise...
I've talked to people who used to work for Walker when he was County Supervisor.

He was autocratic, "My way or the highway"-type, thin-skinned and was fond of rewarding his cronies.

Likewise as governor he has rewarded his cronies, has the "My way or the highway" attitude, and doesn't take honest criticism well.

1. He won't compromise because he doesn't need to compromise to win.
He'll do everything in his power, and right now, unfortunately, his power is significant. Combined with majorities in both houses of the state legislature, there is little that can be done to stop him.

A recall petition is allowed a year after he takes office (and immediately for certain state senators), but even that won't come in time to reverse the damage he will do. It will take another statewide election (or two or three) to turn the executive and legislative branches back to Democrats.

of a person who will manifest conservative social behavior. (If you are inclined to such things you can real the article by Jost et al. http://psycnet.apa.org/?fa=main.doiLanding&doi=10.1037/0033-2909.129.3.339

At best, we can expose those traits which make Walker seem unacceptable--as when he went authoritarian and threatened use of the national guard with language that was open to interpretation. People went with his statement the way they did because they know Walker's predelictions.

I don't believe anyone who knows him really expects to change Walker's mind.

But there are other Republican senators who may be motivated to amend the bill to remove the union-busting provisions. I say senators because numerically that's the smallest challenge. But the senate is also replete with Capitalist ideologues who think very similarly.

The only way to win is to wear down 3 members of the republican senate caucus. Achieving that will be a long slogand the flee-a-buster will probably need to go on for many weeks.
