Robin Hoods in Reverse - Republicans Take From the Poor and Give To the Rich
I don’t know how the Republicans get away with it. In the budget cutting debates, they keep saying that people must sacrifice because the situation is so serious. That statement is fine in the abstract.

But why is it that all the sacrifice that they are proposing is going to come from workers and the poor. Whether its as beneficiaries of the domestic programs and services that are being gutted or public service workers whose collective bargaining rights they want to end, the sacrifice is coming from those who can least afford it. And since these cuts will hurt state and local economies and increase unemployment, they will receive a double whammy.

Meanwhile, the rich and near rich … who have done very nicely during the financial crisis … aren’t being asked to sacrifice anything. Instead, they get tax cuts! Whatever happened to the concept of "shared sacrifice?"

When are the people in this country, including those in the Republican base who are not well off, going to rise up and tell these jokers, “Enough! You do not have a mandate to do us harm. If there must be sacrifice, it must be apportioned justly.” They need to hear from the people.

2. That's the concept of shared sacrifice.
We sacrifice, and they share what they take from us.

12. Obama had no real choice
On this issue, much as I hated extending those tax cuts, the president and Dems in Congress really had no choice given the tactics and strength of the Republicans in the Senate. If he wanted the extension of unemployment benefits and the other goodies he got in return, he had to go along. If he hadn't, none of the good things that were part of that deal would have gone through, and the middle class tax cuts would have lapsed as well. The president was right to use the hostage analogy.

8. Corporate Welfare is vast. To be of assistance to a corporation
you have to start with big bucks, like 100s of Millions and
more like Billions.

But they squeal like stuck pigs if you tyr to give a few pennies
to the poor.

On the Democratic side we must learn to be more vociferous
in pointing out these instances.

13. Not just vociferous
We need to be smarter ... we have to outgun the Republicans on managing spin, both on our policies and as importantly Republican hypocrisy.

9. An ideology that has taken hold is ,that in order to be a
prosperous society,we need a government that does virtually nothing for anybody. It's everyone for themselves. I am a 57 year old white male. I watched this notion take off after the passage of Civil Rights Amendment and the voting rights act. It is drenched in racism and tribalism. In the mean time, We have an economy that has become structured where the rich just keep gobbling up more wealth at the expense of everybody else.

10. We need a bit of Egypt in us now
Yes, this is certainly the mantra of the Republican party. But the point of my post is, how do the Republicans get away with something as bold and obvious as what they are doing now? Why don't people scream, stop! There are certainly millions of people who voted Republican in the midterms who do not support what they are doing now. The only thing that can stop these madmen is the voice of the people who are there constituents. Egypt may have come to Wisconsin, as Paul Ryan said today, but it certainly hasn't come to the rest of the country.
