Libyan Revolution Tweets, Day 5, Part 7 (MASSACRE ALL over Libya now!)

Previous Day 5 threads: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6

Occasionally, since the people I follow cover Bahrain, Yemen and Jordan also, if I see something really important about those countries, I'll post it here but I plan to mostly focus on Libya because they're having the hardest time getting the word out and Qaddafi's brutality is more systematic and I believe the scale exceeds the brutality in the other country.

They're also the country with the most propagandists on Twitter.

To make sure the Army doesn't swing the revolution to the people, Qaddafi has brought in thousands of mercenaries from Pakistan, Bangladesh and other North African coutries, specifically Chad. There's a Facebook video of a captured mercenary from Chad http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=103697256377254&oid=179449562095105 (Youtube link here) Their confessions are that they've been offered between $12,000 - $30,000 each.

45. The Italians were always friendly to Gadhaffi, but this is way
beyond being friends, this would be a war crime!!

And people here are claiming he would go to Venezuela? Told them he had closer friends in Europe and the U.S.

I hope this is not true.

OMG. OMG. I looked at the first picture and can't stop crying. Very graphic. Just torsos. The second one is a young man lying in the street, his head with a huge hole in it from a high caliber projectile.

There is a SERIOUS GRAPHIC warning for both photos. Pregnant women not advised. Weak heart, not advised!

44. Interview of Khaled Kaeem, Libyan Deputy Foreign Minister on AJE
Khaled Kaeem, Libyan Deputy Foreign Minister: I have more trust in any foreign channel than I do in any Arab channel.
After Al Jazeera changes its policies it will be invited to #Libya

Al Jazeera anchor asked: "Can you tell us how we can can know that we passed your test? Maybe give us from cheating tips?"

Khaled Kaeem, Libyan Deputy Foreign Minister: No no no! I don't accept you making fun of me. ... There was no massacre & the telecommunications weren't cut off in #Libya. The foreign media will be invited to Tripoli tomorrow & they will show the world the truth. There were no African mercenaries in #Libya. The Libyans were out on the street shouting against Al Jazeera, calling it a "Liar" We want to know why Al Jazeera is not talking about Qatar & the US base there & relations with Israel. Why don't you speak about the coup d'etat of the Qatari Emir against his father? I will invite now, I will call now the Qatar Ambassador & take him on a tour of Tripoli to see it. I am ready to give my life for any Libyan, you don't care about Libyans. Libyans are dear to me. Perhaps the police went too far in Benghazi the first day but this must be investigated. I am against the bombing of civilians. There was no bombing. There was an attack against the police. These alleged planes in Malta don't carry the Libyan flag, I am not sure they are Libyan.

More coming

73. "Kaddafi used Shilkas against civilians"
@weddady: Witness live on Aljaz: "Kaddafi used Shilkas against civilians" he's talking about ZSU-23 Shilka, a AA-radar guided system

I believe earlier today I saw video of a Libyan handling one of the spent shells. It would fire a 23MM round that would produce the kind of butchery we've seen in other video and photos. It's also consistent with the background audio we've heard in various reports.

ZSU-23-4 Shilka on shooting range:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaYCjfvHIsQ&feature=related

It was used in the 1977 Libyan-Egyptian War and in 1986 in northern Chad. I'm still trying to learn if they are used by Libyan Army or Air Force units, or both.

More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZSU-23-4

This is the weapon being referred to:

75. Well, yes it's primarily an AA weapon,
but the cannons can be rapidly rotated and used against ground targets. Check out the youtube clip and you'll get an idea of what unarmed protesters were standing against. It was one of the most effective Warsaw Pact AA weapons, but for that matter have you ever heard of the German 88?

http://www.falconbbs.com/zsu-23-4.htm

The Soviet ZSU-23-4 Shilka is a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun system mounted on an ASU-85 chassis. The all-welded steel hull is divided into three compartments : driver's in the front, fighting in the middle, and engine at the rear.
The turret houses four AZP-23 23mm cannons with an elevation of +85 degrees and a depression of -4 degrees.

This tweet log of Catherina's is the most painful stuff I've ever read. I was on-line when the mercs opened up during Saif's speech, and I watched it all come apart. It's turned me completely inside-out. I can't believe what I'm seeing.

I've never believed in capital punishment, but I hope they draw and quarter this bastard and his demon spawn in the public square. Literally.

On edit: With the addition of Twitter it's like the Internet has become a global nervous system. That has its downside here - this is incredibly painful to sit through in real time.

85. I just finished reading "Day 5" of these posts, and I saw it.
I was "here" for the beginning of Day 5 but I am so broken that it has turned out as bad as I was expecting, worse, even. It's gotten so bad that the rhetoric about outside help has changed 180 degrees, from what I'm seeing (there was a small argument yesterday where I said that we could do some "good," by no means attempting to whitewash the shitty stuff we've done in the past).

@brit_newsman: #Libya International Arrest Warrants are said to being prepared for Ghadaffi and his sons by International Criminal Court.

Don't know if this is accurate or simply wishful thinking, but it's certainly appropriate. Bringing national leaders before the International Criminal Court for firing on civilians from military aircraft is probably not something an American President wants to bring up right now. It's best left to others.

86. I can't believe that in some unquantifiable fashion that isn't a part of it.
Maybe not even in what they are thinking or saying at the moment, but worse, that some things become unthinkable.

There are so many words he can't use right now for fear of being ridiculed. The peaceniks who wanted Bush & Co. tried were characterized as being vindictive, but even if that was a small part of it, peaceniks were also talking about the loss of moral authority.

Imagine instead, if Bush & Co. were turned over, how every petty tyrant would react now, as in "Holy shit, don't screw with that bad sob, he just tried an ex-President for war crimes." If he spoke, they'd know he meant it.

89. To the surpirse of nobody, Richard Perle was a lobbyist for Libya.
One of the more unlikely image-mongers that has worked to burnish Qadhafi's and Libya’s image never registered with the Justice Department. Prominent neoconservative Richard Perle, the former Reagan-era Defense Department official and George W. Bush-era chairman of the Defense Policy Board, traveled to Libya twice in 2006 to meet with Qadhafi, and afterward briefed Vice President Dick Cheney on his visits, according to documents released by a Libyan opposition group in 2009.

until it got to be too embarrassing in 2009 and cut into his other business. Some British firms stepped in to fill part of the gap.

But look at this, the Livingston group claims to have fired Libya as a client over the Lockerbie affair, but still represent the Libyan Foreign Ministry. And Wayne Allard is with him.

When the protesters aren't around it just looks like a "peaceful police state." They only have guns, right? This I believe is what Libya is going to do in the ensuing days, they'll say nothing happened, no fighting happened, everything is fine. We'll see how they play it.

This map has been created by compiling reports from trusted accounts on Twitter. Nonetheless, these reports are in general unconfirmed. This information should be considered in the context of there being absolutely no independent media in Libya at this time. This map is not automatically produced. Each posting is considered before it is mapped. These considerations have evolved over time as conditions on the ground have changed.
