Stop Fracking around! Take a look at this excellent report on Gas Fracking!
natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale and efforts to stop it

http://marcellusprotest.org/sites/marcellusprotest.org/files/shadbush_marcellus101_powerpoint_feb2011.pdf

............

This was done by a group of concerned PA protesters http://www.marcellusprotest.org/ to the dangers of gas fracking. It is something everyone should see! While Wisconsin is fighting for the rights this is taking over our country with the same influence of huge corporations and the Halliburton connection (see page 41 of report):

Because of their friend Dick Cheney the industry enjoys numerous exemptions known as the Halliburton Loophole.

........

If you didn't see it you can check this out too to find out what it does to humans:

Mayor Calvin Tillman Leaves Dish, Texas Fearing 'Fracking' Effects On Family's Health
Zelman Huffington Post

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/24/mayor-calvin-tillman-leav_n_827478.html

...According to the Associated Press, residents of Dish have complained of nosebleeds, pain, and poor circulation since the first compressor station was built in their town in 2005, though there is no hard proof linking the health problems to the natural gas drilling. The air over the Barnett Shale near Dish was found to contain high levels of the toxic chemical benzene, shown to cause cancer. The town's mayor is leaving it all behind.

Last Memorial Day was the final straw. Tillman's 5-year-old son awoke in the middle of the night with a severe nosebleed. As Tillman describes to HuffPost, "He had blood all over his hands, blood on the walls -- our house looked somewhat like a murder scene." In the weeks prior, both of Tillman's sons had experienced severe nosebleeds. At the same time, the town was surrounded by a strong odor from their natural gas facilities.

1. this part of the report is so frustrating. ahhh, profit at the expense of future viability of water
Millions of gallons of water are initially withdrawn from
local streams and rivers
• Much of this freshwater can never be recovered
Flowback
• 20% of the frac fluid mixture comes back to the
surface through the well <1>
• “Flowback” contains chemicals used in the initial
mixture plus heavy metals, radioactive materials and
brines from within the geology

4. I had no idea!
The Sundance Film Festival last year featured documentary Gasland, which does seem to be on Youtube.

I'm linking the shortest vid I found about it, an interview between the filmaker Josh Fox and Thom Hartmann. Two parts total 11 minutes

Sorry if this is old news to some. I'm still looking at vendors, will report back should it yield any stunning discoveries...more stunning I mean.

6. Quote: "If we don't start truly weaning ourselves off of fossil fuels,
then the manner at which we extract those fossil fuels is just going to get more risky."

The giant babies here who throw monster temper tantrums every time the price of gas goes up 5 cents, should read that sentence again.
